Was 10.6 the last version to run Motion 4?
No, a few more versions worked. Either 10.8 or 10.9 was the last to be compatible.

Again your correct. I've just rebooted into 9.5 and it's running (4.0).
Any idea what breaks in 10.10/11 seeing tha other apps still run?

Feb 21, 2016 2:04 AM in response to Stockholmby teecee,Qmaster is no longer supported on EC, but Final Cut Pro 7 works pretty well, though not without issues:
On my setup I noticed the main screen preview on a second monitor (Dell 4K display} was wobbly. This definitely does not happen when running FCP on Mountain Lion with the same project and footage. I will be sticking to the old OS until I upgrade to FCPX.

Mar 23, 2016 6:45 AM in response to Stockholmby dtmp,I'll add my 2c here. I finally added an SSD to my old reliable Mac Pro 2008, and decided to load el cap on it. Although I've had the usual hiccups moving old programs and finding registrations, plugins, and preferences, (mainly because I could migrate my bloated HD user folder to the smaller SSD) it's not been terrible. But with FCP6, I've had some issues. It will load up and run fine, but I use Canon MXF footage and although I can playback already ingested video, I cannot for the life of me get it to recognize now in the log and transfer window, keeps giving me the "does not recognize media or directory structure." I've tried installing all sorts of the canon drivers but to no avail. So I've resigned myself to give up and just reboot to Yosemite. So, one vote for yes and no for FCP on el cap.

Mar 23, 2016 8:27 AM in response to dtmpby Shane Ross,MIgrating FCP won't work. There are too many components buried in the OS that don't get migrated. Only a full install works.

Mar 26, 2016 9:26 AM in response to Stockholmby redhed55,In spite of what lots are saying in this string, I can't get FCP7 to work, either in Yosemite or El Capitan. I upgraded without realizing this could potentially be an issue. When I try to open FCP7, I get the following message:
In order to open Final Cut Pro, you need to update to the latest version. It then takes me to the app store to purchase FCPX.
I even spoke to the guys at the Apple store about it and they admitted, it was screwed. I would love to know how others are getting their FCP7 to work.

Mar 26, 2016 10:05 AM in response to redhed55by Russ H,Mavericks (10.9.5 was the last release).
You may be able to create a bootable partition with 10.9.5 if push comes to shove,
Were you using the application installation disks (or a disk image of them) to install? Because you need to in order for it to work.
Russ
edit: As Shane said previously in this thread.

Mar 26, 2016 10:20 AM in response to Russ Hby redhed55,Thanks so much. No, since this program was a download, unfortunately I don't have the disks. I'll see about the bootable partition though.
Thanks!

Mar 26, 2016 11:16 AM in response to redhed55by Shane Ross,FCP 7 was never made available as a download by Apple. Which means you pirated it. Which means asking for help on Apple's own support forums...for pirated software...was not the wisest choice. We don't support that.

Mar 26, 2016 11:19 AM in response to Shane Rossby redhed55,The laptop was given to me after a show I worked on. The software was loaded. If it was pirated, certainly not by me. When I went back to the line producer when this issue first came up, he told me the program was downloaded.

Mar 26, 2016 11:23 AM in response to redhed55by Shane Ross,If you were given/sold a laptop with software loaded on it...and you don't receive the installers for that software...that's not legal ownership. And if your producer pirated the software, it still isn't a legal copy. Whether you did it or not, this isn't a legal copy.
