Q: What if SMC (and PRAM) reset doesn't stop the fans from randomly going bananas?

The fans on a Macbook Pro (2015) running 10.10 OS X are randomly going nuts.  The CPU is bored, RAM is bored.  Nothing going on in the background that would indicate anything as a cause.  In fact, the machine is nearly cold to the touch.  The problem happens infrequently, but does seem to occur whenever the machine is put to sleep.
