I wanted to let you know that Safari and Chrome crashing is not an iOS 9 thing, it's an iPad 2 thing. Mine is still on iOS 8.4.1 and both browsers routine crash on me. I also find that I have to press a link several times before it will load. And this is just trying to read news sites (ABC, CBS, FoxNews, CNN, and NBCNews). I do very little other web browsing because of this. These apps are no longer properly programmed to deal with the limited amount of RAM an iPad 2 has (500MB). On that same note, there are newer apps out there that while they are compatible with an iPad 2, are very sluggish and prone to temporarily freezing.
I reset my iPad and restored it to iOS 8.4.1 and even without restoring my backup, Safari was still crashing. The old iPads just cannot handle the amount of content on new web pages with the system Safari and Chrome have in place.
Facebook is also incredibly slow to load and I'm considering deleting the app and just using the browser.
I have a 64GB iPad with over 12GB of free space, so that should not be an issue. Sadly they have just reached obsolescence. Honestly after 5+ years is pretty good, though it stings having something so expensive getting rendered nearly unusable. They should have left it at 8.4.1.

May 5, 2016 7:18 AM in response to phoenix316by j.r.lakeside,Thanks for the feedback, but cannot agree. I had zero problems with either browser and NO crashes at all prior to iOS 9 release. It is not the iPad itself, it is the OS. As for going back to 8, unless you did a true clean install, you did not return to the original. If you loaded back your previous apps, etc, that makes it even less so since most of those have likely been updated recently.

Aug 18, 2016 8:26 AM in response to tamara m.by Indivine,I have the same problem. The iPad 2 keeps on crashing when I turn on a simple game. I've turned all the background stuff. I really believe it is an iPad 2 defect and not and IOS 9 update.

Aug 26, 2016 5:52 AM in response to tamara m.by johnny592807,EVERYONE! needs to Complain about this so it can be fixed, when 9 or 10 people complain seems like its just a reboot thing when its not, there's a bug problem that needs fixing, Mine is doing the exact same thing and until EVERYONE! leaves there Complaint nothing is gonna be done. so its not your apps or the sites you visit its the IPAD 2 update!

Sep 22, 2016 5:57 PM in response to Luckysharkby MichelPM,The iOS 9.3.5 update actually sped up my iPad 2 noticeably.
My iPad 2 had been running fine with no real issues on every iOS 9 update, but this last update really ticked up performance of my iPad 2.
It's a noticeable improvement.
I still have about 18 GBs of free data storage space on a 64 GB iPad 2.
How much free data storage space is left on your iPad 2?
How many apps do you leave running in the background in the iOS App Switcher?
Try my tips and possible solutions.
