Calendar can't refresh from iCloud

After upgrading to El Capitan, none of the iCloud calendars are showing in the calendar pane in Calendar. Clicking on the exclamation point shows "Calendar couldn’t connect to cal.me.com. Make sure you’re connected to the Internet, and then try again later." Checking iCloud in Safari shows the calendars. iCloud in System Preferences has Calendars checked and shows me logged into my account.


Shouldn't the local copies of the calendars have loaded?

Deleting and recreating my iCloud internet account seems to have corrected this problem.
