Mac Mini doesn't recognize Pioneer BDR-XS06 Blu-ray writer

I recently purchased a Pioneer BDR-XS06 Blu-ray burner.

After downloading the correct driver ( https://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/PUSA/Computer/Computer+Drives/BDR-XS06 )

I connected the proper AC adapter. I can insert discs and eject them via the eject button on the device, but that's all I can do.

The Mac Mini doesn't recognize it. ( Yes, I've also unchecked 'Put Hard Disks to sleep when possible'. Doesn't help )

Any ideas?

What OSX version?

The link you provided said

Operating System Support

Mac OS X 10.8/10.7/10.6

How is the player identified in System Profiler? It should be listed under USB

Thanks for the quick response but,

I just updated to El Capitan.

The writer is not showing in The system profiler under USB.

By the way, I'm a newbie with Mac. So, please bear with me. Thanks

Not showing in System Profiler means either it is not compatible, it is broken or a bad data cable.

I would contact Pioneer.

Thanks for the help. I appreciate you taking the time.

I actually tried it on a windows PC, and the device works fine.

So, finally I switch USB ports on the Mac and... voilà! It works.

Now, I have to figure out what's wrong with the other USB ports 😟

BluRay drives are notorious for drawing more power from a USB than the USB spec

and most supply a "double plug" USB cable to allow drawing power from 2 USB ports.

This could very well be what the issue is. I have had a similar issue with my LG BluRay

portable.

I thought of that first but the poster's initial post included "I connected the proper AC adapter.".

I'm thinking about getting the same player.

Can can you tell me how it's worked for you since the initial usb port problem? Are you able to play blu-ray movies? What software do you use to play movies?
