It usually does, but this time it did not work for either machine. The fact that Microsoft an apple were both warned for this issue in july doesn't improve my mood.

My experience is that upgrading to 2016 fixes the issue.

That's a problem, there are reports of 2011 working, 2016 working, 2011 not working, 2016 not working, and then there are reports that neither work, or both do.

Which one you believe depends on what works for you. So trying them all is the only answer (or you could just reinstall correctly if required)

Followed the instructions to fully uninstall Office, reloaded Office, as soon as it went to the Microsoft Exchange Server to set up the account, it crashed.

Stop wasting your time as MS has acknowledged a problem.  Run Mail until there's an update.  Outlook 2011 on Mac does not work.

Mail and Outlook use the same Exchange engine, so set the account up in Mail and see whether the issue is caused by OS X (neither Mail or Outlook work) or Outlook only (Mail works, Outlook doesn't)

    Post back.

Exchange account works on Mail.  Now, if I could only get into Outlook to delete the exchange account there (I have other imap accounts that I would still like to use without starting a new profile).

So MS will have to patch Outlook, OS X can deal with an Exchange account very well without Outlooks help.

IMAP and Exchange are very different, I would expect one to have no effect on the other.

This still works as a temporary solution. I had Outlook 2011 open for about 20 hours before I had to start the process over again. It's not perfect but t's a workable solution for while.

This issue is 100% outlook.  It is not an Exchange issue.  It seems that the system calls that Outlook is utilizing are either no longer supported or have changed.  It's not really an Exchange issue.  It just so happens that ppl are bring up exchange since IMAP works in Outlook.  Apple Mail is utilizing different system calls, again, which is why it works with Exchange.  Finally, Outlook 2016 will work, however, most people using Outlook 2011 will *NOT* have that options since their company would have already had to upgrade to the latest version of Exchange.

Options to fix at this point:

         * Downgrade to Yosemite (this is Microsoft's "workaround" and in my opinion, their response to a complete failure on their part to address this quickly)

         * Upgrade to Outlook 2016 (it seems your company would need to upgrade to the latest Exchange backend as well)

         * Migrate to Apple Mail (Works fine with the older Exchange Server - For those used to Exchange, this could be a slight learning issue.  And you wouldn't have your local mailbox folders your created with Outlook, plus rules, plus categories, etc.)

         * Get a VM app (VMFusion or Parallels and run Yosemite in there with Outlook 2011.  I know this is almost laughable, but it would work)

         * Wait for MS to fix this (Considering it is affecting businesses worldwide, maybe they will actually fix this faster.  Unless this is their way to force Office 365 and the 2016 suite of apps.)

    Anyone else have other options?

This has been happening to me as well since upgrading to El Capitan. Each time it has, I did a Force Quit, then if I wait a couple of minutes and relaunch Outlook 2011, it has worked.

Two articles users might find helpful:

Outlook for Mac 2011 on OS X 10.11 hangs during account sync operation

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3098396

This article indicates sync issues. This would seem to affect both IMAP and Exchange accounts. Users with POP accounts might not experience problems. Users will need to wait for a fix for Office 2011.

One additional option for Exchange and IMAP users would be to download the trial of Office 2016. This would give you 30 days to wait on a fix.

    Requirements: Outlook for Mac 2016

Exchange 2010 SP2 or higher. Support for Exchange 2007 has been dropped.

    OS X 10.10 or higher

Microsoft acknowledges Office 2016-OS X El Capitan crashes but lacks ETA for fix

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/2988670/os-x/microsoft-acknowledges-office-2016-o s-x-el-capitan-crashes-but-lacks-eta-for…

Not everyone is having issues with Outlook 2016. It's unclear exactly what is causing crashes. Personally, I have not crashed once with Outlook 2016 in El Capitan. I have one Exchange and one IMAP account. I did start with a clean User and added my accounts when I upgraded to El Capitan. I have no data under "On My Computer" folders.

    • Test new Profile (Identity)
    • Test new User

Testing in a new Profile will eliminate any issues with your current Profile (Identity). How to create new Profile (Identity) in Outlook 2016

Outlook 2016 users might want to test in a new User to see if Outlook works without crashing. It's possible there is some corruption in Outlook's data in your User's Library.

I unchecked everything in Spotlight search in preferences relating to mail/messages and so far no crashes.
