My iMac runs slow after El Capital upgrade

I just upgraded from Mavericks to El Capital and my iMac is running very slow. Keystroke response lags. Applications open much slower than before the upgrade. iCloud is very slow. Overall, not a good experience. Anyone else have similar problems.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11), 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HD

Most of the problems that I had were related to iCloud and synchronizing Spotlight. Today, iCloud servers appear to be running. I continue to have problems with MS-Office Outlook 2016. When using Outlook, my gmail account doesn't want to sync with the gmail servers. I have gone back to the native Mail app in OS X that does not have this problem. So far, so good.

I have the same problem. My iMac has slowed terribly after installing El Capitan. Examples: 12 seconds to load Mail; 10 seconds to load Safari; 6 seconds to close Safari; spinning wheel when trying to enter data into online forms. Had none of these problems prior to El Capitan.

My iMac is only 2 years old. It has 32 GB RAM, plenty of hard drive space, and fast video chips. I do not run any of the funky "clean my Mac" or such software.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Note that I saw something about Spotlight needing to Index? Not sure what that was about.
