Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners then select the Print tab.
Then right or control click your printer on the left then click Reset Print System
Then restart your Mac and your printer to test.
If that didn't help, there are drivers for v10.11 El Capitan available here > http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Officejet-Pro-8600-e-All-in-O ne-Printer-series---N9/4322914/model/4323658

Sep 30, 2015 7:29 PM in response to irisrichby irisrich,Called Apple support. Had to unplug printer and reset it in system preferences, printers, unplug printer, plug it back in, add printer back - and now it works!
