Q: New Spotlight not working on El Capitan

Just updated El Capitan. I find the Spotlight works just as the old one. I tried "weather" and sports evens and it shows nothing.

I have the same problem, no spotlight features from El Capitan work.

Except for the resize / move thing.

    Apple is not here.

If you wish to let Apple know about this, post at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

I understand it's a problem of regions. I'm in South America and new functions are not available. For that, it is best to use "Flashlight" but for not works with El Capitan.

Changing region to US is not enough. Your device must present physically on US territory.

OSX Maps app checks your location, then even you have changed the region in Preferences, you'll don't reach working Spotlight search as it was described in Apple ads.

Just try to connect your device to some US server trough VPN, and you'll see weather forecast in Spotlight window.

BTW obtaining an US IP-address is not enough too. OSX checks your router's MAC-address, so you have to look for some new virtual router to reach your goal.

Too mutch for so small benefit I guess.

I finally ... at long last ... got Spotlight to work.  Here is what I did ....

Opened System Preferences.  Clicked "Spotlight" to open it.  For "Search Results" I clicked all the categories so they will appear in Spotlight search results.  At the bottom of the window I clicked "Allow Spotlight Suggestions in Spotlight and Look Up".  I then closed System Preference for Spotlight.  I then clicked the Spotlight Icon.  At the top Spotlight displayed icons for various apps including Safari.  I then entered, into Spotlight, such things as "AAPL" and "Weather Chicago" and "Chicago Cubs".  In each case, Spotlight displayed the appropriate result.

So now it's working.  HOWEVER, it's still not working for natural speech searches.

Hope my fix works for you.

I have the same problem here in the UK, Apple states that Spotlight functions will work in the UK, but they don't.

Also my Spotlight has frozen twice, and is now stuck with a blue icon, and I can't type, so looks like a reboot, must be a bug, so I will report it.

This is really disapointing from Apple.

First no NEWS app on iOS 9 unless you set regions to US, now this.

APPLE does not carre about users from other countries...

Spotlight continues not to work for me. I've followed everyone's suggestions on how to get it to work, but it just won't.  It only searches through my documents for the words I inputted (like "weather Chicago"), rather than showing me the weather forecast in Chicago.

Has anyone been able to fix this? Or at least gotten an official response? I'm currently in Brazil, but my settings, system, etc all are set to English-US and it still won't work...

    Thanks.

Same here. Based in UK. When I connect via a US VPN server and set my system settings to US, it works. In any other case, it does NOT.

Which is very weird - given Apple advertised the enhanced Spotlight functions in all countries, including their UK, German, etc websites.

If this is only supposed to work in the US, clearly misleading advertising.

Same problem here, I think they intentionally remove the new spotlight search temporarily. I just can't figure it out why?! I guess we can't do anything but to wait for the next software update.

Just tested the El Capitan 10.11.1 Beta. Same issue. It certainly won't come back with the next release - unless this is something they are throttling at server side while the service is new.

Same problem here in Hong Kong.  The spotlight in El Capitan is just the same as the old version.  Do the new features only work in the U.S.?

This is strange, I'm in the UK and Spotlight would not work as apple suggested , so I went into Preferences and Spotlight and ticked the only unticked box ,"Spotlight Suggestions" and now its working.
