iPhotos vs. Photos

This is a two part question:

#1 I am running a 2007 iMac with Yosemite 10.10.5. I prefer iPhotos to the newer Photos program. I find it much easier to create new albums and the organization of pics is much easier for me. Photos is taking up 27 Gb of space. If I delete the Photos program will the iPhoto program ever be obsolete and will I be unable to access the pics in the future? I have over 6000 pictures on iPhoto.

#2 My hard drive is 320 GB and I have 220 Gb of free space. Would freeing up the extra 27 Gb make a big deal in the way the computer runs? Should I just keep the Photos program and ignore it?

iMac (20-inch Mid 2007), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), Mac user since MacintoshClassic '90

1 - of course iPhoto will become obsolete - you certainly can delete the Photos library (the application is no where near 27GB) but it will save very little space since Photos and iPhoto both use hard links to the same master and preview photos - Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support

2 - no - and again you will free up much less that 27 GB - on the other hand if you are not going to use Photos then delete the library and migrate again later
