Ipod Touch 4G black screen

I have an old IPod Touch 4g that I've kept plugged into my car's aux and charger non-stop for months. I use it daily, as my car will play my tunes from it. Today, I unplugged it and the screen is black. When I connect to computer, Itunes pops up...IPhoto loads the pics on it but Itunes tells me I should recover or restore it. I tried holding down the home and power buttons like I see on so many YouTube videos I searched for for help...but nothing is making the screen come back on. I hear it click like it takes a pic when I hold down those buttons, too...Any solutions?

If it's taking photos etc then it means - to me anyway - that the guts are working, the screen isn't. You can try the forced restart a few more times, see if the screen comes back. That's what it's called when you hold down the sleep and home keys for 20-30 seconds, you're forcing it to restart.

It may work, it may not. Honestly, with a 4th gen, given its age, paying to fix it may not be worth it. You might be money ahead to simply purchase something else to play your music on.

Thanks. I have been trying that. Not working, unfortunately. I just like leaving this Ipod in the car. It's nice to have it there and my tunes are always there...I don't have to plug it in.I just leave it there....it's old, so not good for much else, but I wanted to add some new songs to it and seems I can't get the screen to come on. I have a newer one that I use for pics, my alarm clock...everything else...my business is at home so I basically use it with the WiFi for everything. THanks for your suggestions.

I had an old nano that I used for road trip music. It finally gave up the ghost - the battery fritzed after being discharged too much and not charged enough. I ended up replacing it with a cheap MP3 player - made more sense to me to pay $40 plus an expandable memory card than hundreds for an iPod.

Might be something to look into, especially if it's just going to live in the car.

I agree....I actually have 2 old mp3 players that may work for this. I just like that my newer downloaded songs automatically synced on the Ipod....I would have to manually put them on an MP3 player and maybe even have to convert the file format. I believe Itunes are mp4a and some players use mp3 only...not sure about this, but the Ipod made it so easy.

Something I should note on here. When I plug this Ipod into my computer and Iphoto pops up...the pics on the Ipod load and there are pics of my screen from the times I have been trying to get this thing to start up...pics of the wallpaper with the time posted....and one shows that the battery is fully charged, yet, I still cannot get the screen to come on for me. Weird!
