Q: Mail cannot log into accounts after El Capitan

Mail repeatedly popup asks for both my email account passwords. When i enter them, it says "Unable to verify account name or password"

I have also re-entered the passwords in Mail>Accounts. Same results

But, I can sign into my Network Solutions webhost mail website with both the account names and passwords. Both also work perfectly on my iPhone Mail

So, the problem is clearly with Mail and the updates in El Capitan, since it worked fine for years prior to the update today

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11), 15" Late 2011, 2.3GHz i7, 8GB RAM

skyfrance, you are the Dude!  I went through the Apple/GoDaddy fingerprinting too.  Did everything you listed and the account is now solid.

    Many mahalos!!

I had a similar problem with being able to receive email with my pop setting but unable to send using my smtp details.

I logged on to my ISP and changed my SMTP password, then re-entered my new password in Mac Mail. No luck there, same old, same old!

Dowloaded Airmail 2 from the app store. That didn't like my settings either.

Used Airmail's online chat messenger and asked why I was having smtp issues after upgrading to Mac OS El Capitan. The advice in the following reply seems to have resolved the problem.

This is an issue with Apple's Preferences Database. You can reset it:

    • Open Terminal (Cmd+Space Bar and enter Terminal)
    • Copy/paste/enter this command:

    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -all local,system,user

That did it (Rahul's post, not the "solved" post). Thanks!

    Call Apple Support.

When I did, they had me open KeyChain Access and search for 'veri".

I went through each entry and deleted any that had a red warning displayed.

After restarting, all my Google accounts began working again.

I could even add new ones.

I did have to re-enter all the passwords, but that's a small inconvenience.

Hi - I'm not sure if you're still having this problem, but...

Have you checked if your online account is enabled for POP3 access?  For my hotmail account, I had to login online (at hotmail.com) and do the following:

    • Once I logged in, I clicked on the "gear" icon and chose "options".
    • Then, under "Accounts" I clicked on "POP and IMAP".
    • Then, under "POP options" I said "yes" to letting devices and apps use POP (apparently the default is to say no).

That's it.  After months of frustration, this worked for me.
