Sep 30, 2015 9:55 PM in response to taspinarby Aaron Shane,I am having the identical problem!
I have been reading online for various remedies, but have hit the same roadblocks. Old @mac account that doesn't exist and isn't recognized as a valid email address. When I try and delete the account on my phone, I can't because I have to sign out to turn off the "Find my phone" feature.
Suuuuuuuper frustrating!!!!

Oct 2, 2015 7:06 PM in response to Aaron Shaneby Aaron Shane,I ended up calling the Apple ID Security team and they were able to verify me to that account, access it and send me the link to reset the password so could change it, shut off "Find My Phone" on my phone and then delete the account. I was able to then sign back in with my current Apple ID and it worked.

Dec 26, 2015 4:54 AM in response to taspinarby James LG,Youre not actually deleting your Apple ID and it's data. You're signing out from the device. To delete an account entirely you have to ring Apple & request it meaning you lose all your purchases/data attached to that account. Your apps will still work but you can't update them etc.
When you say it doesn't exist in the system it is because the primary address may have been changed.
