Q: Mail not working with El Capitan

Made the big mistake of upgrading my laptop to El Capitan as it's filled with bugs.

The biggest problem is that I can no longer receive mail. Yes, I have a working connection, as I'm writing this. It seems none of the accounts will connect to the server. Mail is working on my desktop so I know it's the new install as it worked before the install.

Thanks!

No joy for me as well.  We still are experiencing a problem with our Single Sign-On server authentication when setting up Mail accounts.  Talked to Apple yesterday.  The engineers are still looking in to it.

i too spoke with Apple--sent 40 some files and screen shots for the engineers.....they said about 3 days......my imap mail (network solutions) doesn't show up...it shows it downloading.....and when I get new mail it shows it coming in--but nothing is visible...and no unread bubble of numbers....didnt start until after the update....UGH!..today, I learned if I do a search "of "To "my email box that isn't showing" that I can see the emails....very very strange.  I have had a problem until this update

    Sorry this won't help...

After reading your post I thought yes I can relate to that. After I did a wind back and reinstalled El Capitan thinking it sorted everything with Mail app I have now noticed that some emails do not show up unless I do a search, also noticed that emails from a couple of the mail accounts don't show when the Inbox is selected, only when that account in the inbox is selected or I search for them. How to break an App that is working fine... El Capitan. Lol

Seems I'm not alone facing an apple wall ...

Lots of problems with Mail since El Capitan "great" upgrade...

In order to receive and read my emails, I have to quit and relaunch the mail app several times if it does not freeze ...

The changes made in the mail app are not applied on iCloud (moving or deleting emails) /// So I have to re-delete and re-move the files from a my iOs devices...

The app sometimes just quit by itself ...

I tried to disconnect and reconnect from my iCloud account, which is know the best solution I had / It allows me to work for a few hours without any bugs / But after a wild those malfunctions come back. Furthermore this causes an overload of my Time Machine backup system...

I tried to archive lots of emails in order to free up space and lighten my iCloud account / It doesn't seem to help... lots of lost time /

Mail is an unreliable app which doesn't suit for business use ...

Does any one use an alternative to the Mail app ?

I just received word from the Apple senior technical advisor working my case.  The product engineers are saying that the Core OS and applications are working fine, and that the problem with Apple Mail not displaying my SSO login must be a configuration issue on our server.  I did remind him that it worked fine in Yosemite, and that I've already talked with my SSO folks... something I did at the beginning of this nightmare, and we could not find any problems.

We will be doing one thing though.  In two days we will be changing the encryption on our certificates.  Maybe, just maybe, this may fix the issue.  If not, I'm sure what to do.

Just in case anyone hopes (foolishly, like myself) that the most recent update, 10.11.2, would fix at least some of our Mail woes, I'm here to tell you that for me it got even worse: Now mail crashes consistently every single time I am trying to attach a somewhat involved .pdf file to an outgoing message. The saga continues...

Mine was not freezing before but I have to Force Quit and re-open to get my mail now.

From bad to worse. I think the marriage to Apple is over.

This latest release seems to have fixed some, but not all of the problems....

The latest release of El Capitan did not reindex my mail accounts and now I cannot reply or forward mail I do receive.

I thought for a moment that 10.11.2 had fixed the problem with my disk being filled up by IMAP Synch log files, as they weren't appearing in the folder accessed via Connection Doctor anymore.

But no - they're now appearing under:

    /private/var/folder/c4/[some long opaque string]/T/com.apple.mail

Instead of creating one large multi-GB file, the app now appears to create dozens of files around 40-60MB each, as often as 1 per minute. CPU and non-responsiveness issues in Mail app remain.

Don't know if Apple is solving the problem, but for me the solution was offered by Dave Hamilton at MacGeekGab. My problem was the inability to use my Exchange account with Mail.app, and the solution was connecting to the account with IMAP rather than ActiveSync (which Mail uses when you use the Exchange radio box to add the account). I can't get to Exchange calendars or contacts, but I use BusyMac's products for those anyway.

Here's where to find the steps needed to solve: <https://support.office.com/en-us/Article/Use-POP-or-IMAP-to-connect-to-Office-36 5-for-business-or-Microsoft-Exchange-accounts-44f951cc-2041-47ed-b674-506889ca9d 8b>

I had a problems with my email too - most didn't work. What fixed it for me was  -
I unchecked "Automatically detect and maintain account settings" - as mentioned in a post above, and then under the "advanced tab" by "port" checking "use SSL" which set the port to 995 and leaving allow insecure authentication unchecked.

Exactly. Crash, Freeze, etc. I would like to know if I can separate aol and gmail from the mail app. I thought my AOL files were the problem, they would not load, froze a few days, and continues to raise havoc. I just wanted to allow my contact EMAIL to be accessed when I find Items during search. When that happens, the Mail open s and I still crash. I have been to the genius bar 5 times!!!!

I even removed 3 malware , and I have the ongoing problem. I would like to separate AOL from Mail, but I think the Genius are getting tired, and they really are not trained or in serviced on this problem.
