Q: App Store download of El Capitan is "waiting"

This is my first time posting in these forums so forgive me for any errors or posting in the wrong place.

I have been trying to download the update to El Capitan on the Mac App Store since yesterday but where it normally says download, it now says pause which is greyed out, and instead of the progress bar and any time remaining, it now says "waiting".

Is there a way that i can cancel this and try starting again or is this the normal situation when downloading a new OS X update so close to the release date?

Thanks in advance for any help

No, it's not normal. An upgrade on a broadband connection shouldn't take longer than an hour.

Hold down the power button on your Mac until the screen goes black then press the power button once to restart.

Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.

Make sure either Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers is selected.

If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.

Then open the App Store. From the App Store menu bar click Store > Sign In

Then see if Pause is still grayed out. It should say:  Resume

Check the App Store Purchases tab for a resume button. If there is none, cancel the download and try again.

I had the same problem but found a solution.

In the App Store, go to Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads... and it should automatically resume downloading. Mine's downloading now thanks to this fix.

Hey, I did not see the solution I found so I am posting this:

The downloads folder near trash bin doesn't show any downloads and

App store Check for unfinished downloads shows that indeed all downloads were complete which baffled me for a while.

The status is shown here in the mac store,

    The UPDATE TAB!

You will see the download progress in this tab.

I guess this is being considered an update download so the progress is under this tab rather than in store tab.

I kept restarting, and canceling download accidentally cause it seemed to disappear and get locked as downloading in store,

when I could have just waited till it downloaded.
