Controlling Apple TV with Samsung Smart-touch remote, while selecting "DVD Player" as the Control device for the ATV

If anyone has a way to control the Apple TV as a "DVD Player" in universal remote setup in the Samsung Smart TV setup , so that the Apple TV can be used when connected to the "Home Theatre" device, then this would be appreciated ?... Problem - you can't connect a HT device to "pass through" through another HT device in setup screens !!! ... and therefore it is not possible for the Samsung Smart TV to send HDMI-Audio-return of the AppleTV audio signal (dolby/5.1) back the the AV receiver and so you only ever get dolby/5.1 from the TV-derived sound and smartTV Apps. Anything else directly attached to the TV (set-top box and Apple TV and PS3 for example in my case) will always just play in stereo/PCM.
