Q: Handoff and AirDrop not working in El Capitan

After upgrading to OS X 10.11 El Capitan, my Handoff and AirDrop stopped working between iOS 9.0.2 on iPhone 5S and my MacBook Pro Late 13. I've tried logging out of iCloud account on both devices numerous times, it didn't help.

For my friend with MacBook Air and iPhone 5S with same iOS version it works flawlessly.

Did anyone encounter similar issue, and if so, how did you solve it?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, iOS 9.0.2, plus iPhone 5S with iOS 9.0.2

U just enter your password and delete the file. i found something else here is a screenshot make sure that the bluetooth sharing is turned on, copy and paste new Bluetooth.plist and restart ur mac, after that everything just works fine. I been testing it for couple of hours, and everything works perfect.Screen Shot 2015-12-11 at 17.26.52.png

I finally got frustrated because my AirDrop and Handoff was one-directional (xfer iPhone 6s iOS 9.2 ---> MBP El Cap 10.11.2).  Did everything above, but then something clicked.  When we initially upgrade OS X, we're given the opportunity to log into iCloud.  We're also given the opportunity to create user accounts that don't HAVE to be iCloud enabled.  Here's what I did as a final thing in addition to the aforementioned fixes.

Log out of iCloud on your OSX machine.  (don't worry.  All of your iCloud-enabled content, logins, etc. are still in the cloud, but deleted off your OSX machine.

Log in to iCloud on your OSX machine. I default all of the options, but if you don't.... try and match the same options you use for iCloud.

    BOOM.

My gut is that the Airdop isn't altogether hw/system pref related, rather iCloud related.  Reason being... I have a vanilla iPod mini with just iCloud connectivity that could not access the MBP, but now it does.  Still running iOS 9... not 9.1 or 9.2.  Gotta love iCloud software changes between OSX revisions. *ahem*

Let me know if that works for you.

Totally wrong - Airdrop can't be iCloud related as it must work without internet connection.

Only Handoff maybe is iCloud related and then can help logoff and login to iCloud on Mac to resset some settings or preferences.

I'm sure that Airdorp is only WiFi and Bluetooth related. I my case problem is only with WiFi, as at home Airdrop is not working, but at work it works perfect. Only difference - WiFi connection.

Here's how I got Handoff to work...

Apparently my Contact card had a lot of information in it. So I set up a new Contact card...named it ME and put in only the email address that I use for my Apple ID, nothing else. Handoff now works across all my devices and my iMac.

Following what you wrote, I tried different settings on my WIFI  but alas

Doesn't work for me: Handoff works all the time, Airdrop doesn't and I have tried everything human possible...well Apple possible

Airdrop works between my idevices not with the Mac, that work only with other Macs

What is wrong?!And why Airdrop can be so selective?

If Airdorp is not working between iOS and OSX, but Handoff is working all the time, then try to make this -

Try to delete your Contact in Address Book on iPhone and after to make new, but only with minimum information - mobile phone number, and apple id email. Also under Settings->Mail,Contacts,Calendars->CONTACTS "My Info" select your name from list and it must look the same as in contacts list. Strange, but if I use my name with special characters like "š" "ū" etc., then updating both different. Tray to get, that they look the same - My name on top of contact list and name in contact list. And also e-mail adresses updating diferent or slow - maybe iCloud slow updating if you tray to change something. I changed also on web under Apple ID, that my neme looks the same (including special latvian characters). And strange, that after all the changes Airdorp was not working immediately, only next day I found that everything is fine. Let see tomorrow.

After so long that AirDrop was not working I was happy to see the 10.11.2 update thinking that it would fix the problem. Unfortunately this didn't happen.
AirDrop works between my iPad min and my iPhone 5s (both with the latest iOS) but not between my mac book pro 13' and any of the previous devices.
Tried most of the suggestion in the forum which helped others but didn't work for me.

Has anyone facing this problem tried a clean install of El Capitan ( maybe on an external drive ) and checked whether that fixed the problem?
This is what I am thinking to do, but as I don't have a spare HD I am wondering if someone else tried that also...

I tried almost all and did clean install in the end updated to latest El Capitan. Still problem with airdrop.

I gave up trying and waiting for a new update to fix this.

In User Library > Preferences...I deleted:

    com.apple.cloudd.plist

    com.apple.cloudpaird.plist

Still no go here. Tried all options mentioned including resetting Bonjour in the house by turning everything off (8 Macs, 4 iOs, two AppleTVs, TimeCapsule, 4 Airport Express - a lot of stuff.) No improvement.

Yosemite had been reliable, but on the last boot, it also was not working, Handoff is working on my MacBooks including a mid 2011 Air with hacked drivers (black, white list changes.)

And Airdrop started to work when I removed my Apple ID email address from Contact cards where it appeared, and left it only in My Card. Go Figure!

Also today after yesterdays manipulations with my Contact Card Airdrop is still working perfect.

p.s. But why at work Airdrop was working also before all the time - didn't understand. Only difference is wifi router in the middle. It's 100% Apple fault somewhere.
