Q: Handoff and AirDrop not working in El Capitan

After upgrading to OS X 10.11 El Capitan, my Handoff and AirDrop stopped working between iOS 9.0.2 on iPhone 5S and my MacBook Pro Late 13. I've tried logging out of iCloud account on both devices numerous times, it didn't help.

For my friend with MacBook Air and iPhone 5S with same iOS version it works flawlessly.

Did anyone encounter similar issue, and if so, how did you solve it?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, iOS 9.0.2, plus iPhone 5S with iOS 9.0.2

I had the same problem on my macbook air. I reset the PRAM and it started working flawlessly.

Thanks everyone, it helped me to finally solve the problem.

    I followed the following steps.

    1. Shut down your machine. Yes, all the way down, not sleep or logging out.
    2. Press the power button and then press command-option-p-r. ...
    3. Hold those keys down until your Mac reboots again and you hear the startup chime.
    4. Let go of the keys and let your Mac reboot normally.

I hope this would help other as well.

Airdrop is a nice idea but it simply does not work.  Rather than pull our hair out trying to debug flawed software, it is much easier to use good software like Dropbox or Evernote to sync files across devices, any devices, not just Apple-approved devices.  Just too darn bad that one of the world's largest IT corporations can't get a handle on file sharing.

The solutions here were not helpful to me. I chatted with Apple support, and they solved my problem in about 5 minutes. They had me check Settings->Messages -> Send & Receive and make sure I was logged into iCloud, as well as having my phone number registered. The minute that I logged into iCloud, both my laptop and iPhone received the same messages.

WE have a 2015 iMac, 2 iPads and 2 iPhones.  All AirDrop/handoff well except...

the oldest is an iPad 4 which will not AirDrop with the iMac in either direction. One just does not see the the other ever!

i Haven't a cure but I do have what is for me a bulletproof workaround.

i Disconnect the iPad 4 from my network but leave wifi on ( I have to forget the network) and instantly the Mac sees the iPad and vice-versa and I can AirDrop.

if anyone knows why this works I'd love to know. My bipac 7800n router is 10 feet from the Mac. Whether this has anything to do with it I don't know.

Although these discussions have been useful in the past, some, like this topic, range through unproductive troubleshooting and random suggestions.

Apple has made it much easier, both at the Genius bar, and online, to answer these questions via chat or phone. Save your energy; no one in this discussion really seems to know what they're talking about. Get some real help.

Here's how I solved it on my mac. Could send from my Macbook Pro to the iPhone 6S. On my iPhone, the Mac suddenly stopped showing up.

    1. Open bluetooth preferences on you man on the right side of the menu bar.

    2. Remove all devices showing in the list. Voila. My iPhone popped up straight away.

    3. Reconnect any device (like the bluetooth mouse).

Good luck and god bless Apple
