Yes, it appears that it is. I really don't think it's the end of the world, though. As for your second point, I believe if you go to Safari Preferences --> Advanced --> Accessibility --> "Press Tab to highlight each item on a webpage" that could solve that particular dilemma.

Yes, i need this back. it's really useful especially when i want to take our products screenshots for presentation / guides. This is annoying. If i could just downgrade my Safari to 8. I really hope apple safari team will bring back this option, this feature wouldn't make the Safari heavy i think.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Not the end of the world, no. But the end of using Safari to take product screenshots. Being able to show a browser window without a location box, but still show that it was a browser window was a key reason to use Safari for this purpose.

I also need this back. I use this option to pull URLs off popup windows that some sites use to play media-- this gives me the ability to download the content rather than listen to it while streaming.

I switched to Chrome in the meantime, as Chrome doesn't make the URL window in a pop-up "unselectable."

How come I don't see the auto-hide menu bar option under Preferences>General, that TheBlaiseM mentioned above?

Is this an El Capitan thing?

Does anyone see it in Yosemite, with Safari 9?

You can still hide the address bar by removing it from the toolbar under the "Customize Toolbar..." menu, if that's your only concern...

although it still leaves the top bar ugly fat.

I used to use Safari with nothing on top (toolbar hidden), so when there is only one tab, the top bar was perfectly thin and slick just with the three traffic light buttons.

And when I need to enter a website address, I just typed Command+L, which brought back the tool bar including the address box temporarily.

Yeah, it does look like it's an El Capitan thing (not supported in earlier versions of OS X).

This is an important issue, thanks TheBlaiseM. As with all other basic features of an interface.

The toolbar does clutter the screen, it is distracting in several ways. I do not like seeing the loading status of pages. If you can remove it in fullscreen it's for a reason. Think about putting some loading indicator on your TV or the time before the current program ends... You could live with it of course but it's better without. It's been possible to hide the toolbar for years, for good reasons.

Please Apple bring back the possibility to hide toolbar, if only through some impractical preference item.

in fact I'd strongly plead for an option to have all windows behave like quicktime windows (no toolbar visible until you touch the window) or better still have the toolbar (or handle) appear not when the mouse pointer hovers over the window, but when it hovers over the upper margin of that window, the area where the tool bar will have used to be. Would you think that a good feature? I might send a request, or wish or however they call it.
