gmail folders lost during el capitan upgrade

Same here!

I had the same problem, but fixed it as follows:

Go to Mail > Accounts. Select the Google/Gmail account and uncheck Mail. Close Mail entirely and reopen. Go back to Mail > Accounts and recheck the Mail option for the Google/Gmail account. All my folders from Gmail were restored.

I have the folders but lost saved emails within the folders, any ideas on how to get them back? I tried the way you did it and nothing. Very frustrated!!

No idea I'm afraid. It did take a long time for the folders and contents to sync down, so depending on how big your mail file is it might get there eventually if it hasn't already.

THIS IS HOW I FIXED IT!.

I had lost:

• all my folders (and of course the access to thousands of messages stored in them)
• all my Rules (automatic handling of incoming messages)

and rebuilding the mailboxes did not work.Solution:

1. Started from the rescue drive
2. Re-installed El Capitan (overwriting the existing one WITHOUT FORMATTING THE DRIVE!)
3. Copied from time machine the complete "mail" folder "user/library/mail" (overwriting the existing one)
4. Launched mail and it automatically imported the ALL the emails, including folders and rules.

Now EVERYTHING WORKS CORRECTLY.
