Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I see you have a MacBook 15" C2D from either later 2006 to mid 2007. The maximum OS this computer supports is OS X Lion, 10.7.5. You can also upgrade your memory to a total of 3 GB, up from 2 GB.
MacBook Pro (15-inch and 17-inch Core 2 Duo)
Note: These models will support only 3 GB total memory. If you want to maximize the amount of SDRAM in your computer, install a 2 GB SO-DIMM in one slot and a 1GB SO-DIMM in the other.MacBook Pro: How to remove or install memory - Apple Support
Take care.

Pre-Installed MacOS: X 10.4.8 (8N1037) Maximum MacOS: X 10.7.5* http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2 .16-15-specs.html
You need 10.6 install Disc first off, then, though 10.7 is considered one of the worst versions of OSX by many, if you want 10.7 you have to call Apple & purchase a download code.

No matter what, if you're going to keep it I'd upgrade it to 4 GB of RAM...
