ios 9 update battery drain problem

First, don't respond with general battery life advice! After upgrade to ios 9 then 9.01, the battery life on my iphone 5s has been reduced dramatically.

This is not a settings issue as I verified all my previous settings are the same as before the update. All location services and background app refreshes are off and were off prior to the update.

There is clearly a problem with the ios using more resources. All the responses I have seen regarding this issue give the same general advice for conserving battery life. This is not a "settings" issue - update resulted in maybe 50-60% of the previous battery life.

Any fixes in the works?

Try to update to 9.0.2 version.

Try to follow the instructions on this page in order to maximize your battery life:

Try to reset your device. This won't delete your data stored on the phone.

  • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
  • Press and hold on the Home button
  • Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.

You may also try to reset all settings: go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings

You may also try to follow these steps:

1. Navigate to settings/general/ battery usage. Check the applications. This will show you which app eats up your battery.

2. Turn off iCloud keychain: Navigate to Settings/ iCloud/Keychain / turn it off.

3. Limit apps activity on the background: Navigate to Settings/ general/ Background App refresh/ turn it off for each application which uses to much power.

4. Disable auto brightness: Navigate to settings/ display and brightness/ auto-brightness. Turn this option off.

Thanks thunderzzz,

I'm installing IOS 9.0.2 now...hopefully that will fix the issue. I'll do a restart too and will report my findings.

So upsetting because my 5c has always behaved, and I've made all the recommended battery saving tweaks, but since the 9.0 update, my phone can barely hold a charge all day, when it used to be good for at least 2 days with normal usage. Now, without anything running on my phone, I see the charge percentage dip substantially each time I look at my phone. I'm paranoid to leave my house without a car charger because my phone just won't last!

I heard that IOS 9 improved battery performance in the 6's, but it's definitely wreaked havoc on my 5c!

I have a new 6s on order, but I'd like my battery life to at least get me through the day until then!

Will report back what 9.0.2 does!

Hello,

i have the same issue as you. This happened to me with an upgrade from ios 6 to ios 8.1.4 (I was forced to upgrade as a shopping app I use would not work on ios 6 anymore) luckily or unluckily my phone went faulty 2 weeks after a replacement (my 3rd replacement), it came with 8.4.0 and the battery lasted very well once all items were turned off or set to manual. 2 days and its at 40% with 1.5hrs total usage.

I thought "well 2 updates into the new ios 9 maybe it's fixed" so just upgraded from 8.4.0 to 9.0.2 and I have the same issue. I have tried reset, tried the reset all settings, as in the original post all options are OFF. my phone with 8.4 would last over 2 days, I rarely use it, however it now lasts the working day down to 23% after driving home. I have read all the forums and magazine help columns, the only thing i have not done is to restore the phone as brand new and start from scratch. the problem has been there for me since 8.4.1, my wife's phone is the same (she is on 8.4.1) and so until apple engineers can reproduce it and fix it, I am stuck. starting from scratch and entering everything again is anti-apple, I have not had to do that for a long long time. But it might be worth it, if it works.

I love apple products but now i am starting to have android dreams or even going back to windows (had to use that phone while apple repaired mine and it is 5 years old and still lasts well into the next night! It just looks so, so retro!).
