Q: ios 9 update battery drain problem

same problem here iphone 5s 16GB battery drain started after update to ios 9.0.2

thanks for the response but i have tried everything full restore setup as new, no apps, no restore from backup, no icloud sync..and nothing happened..testing now with  9.2 beta 2

what about 9.2 beta 2, had you solved your problem? I have the same problem than you, same cases.

I tried 9.2 beta 1 but not solved the problem. Finllay Apple will change my iPhone in the second year of warranty

Lawrence Finch, thanks for your colaboration but, at this moment, there is a bug that affects only a few iPhone 5S, your solution doesn't work so you can stop writting the same one and other time... the green box is not the solution of this thread

No solution battery drain remains on ios 9.2 beta 2..probably i must buy a new phone..

Ok it seems I have fixed the iOS 9 battery drain problem on my 5S.  I had done Restore as New before, but iCloud always then restored my backup data to the phone, and the problem persisted.  I decided the problem was somewhere in my backup data, and iCloud was automatically restoring the problem along with the backup.

I only really need my contacts, so I used CopyTrans Contacts to make a .vcf backup of my contacts list only.  I turned off iCloud so no backup data would be restored to the phone automatically, then used iTunes to Restore as New (Note: Restore as New wipes your phone clean so make sure you have a good backup first).  After the phone rebooted and initial setup was done I emailed the .vcf backup of my contacts to the phone and installed them.  That was this morning. As of now I have 15 hours on Standby, 56 minutes of Usage, and it’s still 88% charged.  I’d say it’s fixed.

There’s probably other ways to make a .vcf backup of your contacts, but I don’t think Apple provides one.  CopyTrans Contacts was $30 and came bundled with other apps to manage your music, calendars, messages etc.  Maybe you should try this method before you buy a new phone.

Seems to have helped a lot to reset. Hours have gone by and the battery has gone down only a little.

Mine as well on an iPhone 6. And checking to see if I have a "runaway app" I found it's Safari. It says I had 36 min of onscreen time with Safari, but it used 67% of my battery life. I went to bed after charging to 100% and woke up with 22%. I had no pages on Safari that needed locations or anything. It's an outrageous amount of drain with no use. A few weeks ago I could go two whole days, with general use, and be fine. Why does every update, iPhone or Mac or their apps, make things worse? I'm almost done with Apple. Microsoft here I come.

WOW! I reset my phone again to see if that would help. Battery at 19%. Opened safari. 30 seconds later... Drops to 2%!!!! Not an iOS problem my ***. I had closed all apps in the 'task manager' and turned off location services.

Ok, I'll type my story.

I bought a used iphone 5c and it was about dead so I charged it up. I got busy and did not mess with it further. 3 days later it was still running when I started to mess with it. I cleared the phone by doing a full reset and it restarted and wanted to upgrade to the newest IOS. I let it finish and then setup the phone for my usage. I sat it down and the next day it was off with a dead battery.

I charged it up to 100% and then disconnected and played with some video and such on WiFi. I laid it down with around 90% left. Later that day, again the battery had died and the phone was off. I started doing all the suggestions online. I ended up turning everything off and put the phone into airplane mode.

Still dropped dead.

I bought a new battery online and installed it. Better but only added perhaps an hour to the life. So I thought maybe the charge port was having an issue, bought a new one and installed it......no difference, it still dies fast.

I was about to buy another battery, hoping I had a junk one that is new and then found a program that lets me look at the battery/life. It is well known but I'm not sure if it gets flagged here for typing the name so..............

The battery capacity for new is 1550, it is charging to 1600.

I just reset it again as the instructions in this thread have said. I'm sitting at 100% now with wifi on and airplane mode off. Most all other location options are OFF along with anything else that is useful to a cell phone user.

I'll post back how long the phone lasts with it sitting on my nightstand doing nothing but being turned on with the lock screen active.

Earlier I could pick it up and hit the upper button to wake it up, with for example it showing 80%. It would refresh instantly and drop to 77%.

If it still dies, I guess my options are:

1 Jailbreak it or whatever I have to do to return to an older IOS for testing.

2 Sell it and buy an android device.

3 Sell it and keep using my 3GS with it's original battery that will not die after sitting idle for 3 days......on IOS 6.

I just reloaded the phone again, first time I have fully restored it since the initial reload. I have done the resets a few times by holding both buttons down to restart it but this is the first with plugging the cable in while holding the home button, while the phone was off.

It installed the latest version (9.1), which it had before. I turned a few things off and the only thing it is connected to is my wifi. A sim is in but not an active sim card, so no cellular service.

It is currently at 93% and sitting on the nightstand, in my prior reset test it had dropped to 82% since my last post.

If it continues to drop, I'm done with apple and I'll move along to another manufacturer. I wanted to upgrade from the 3GS so I could use Metro PCS and get 4LTE service. If I must continue to play games, I'll go buy an android from Metro and just swap over.

Just checked and it is at 78% after sitting doing nothing since my last post.

Got up at 5:45 an d the phone is at 25% after sitting on the night stand doing nothing while I slept.
