pdf text blur

Hi,

I've been using the preview app for a long but today, after updating to El capitan, the text doesn't really look as smooth and clear as before. Here's a picture:

P.S: please open the image to the actual size to see what i'm talking about.

Any help please?

I’m sorry to hear that you are having this issue with your El Capitan upgrade; I know that must be disappointing. I also apologize, I’m not sure that I am seeing the same distortion in the text that you describe in the included image, even at full size (may just be a lack of comparison). Perhaps with a bit more isolation, we can determine exactly what may be causing the issue, even if I can’t see it on my end:

1. You said you noticed this issue after upgrading to El Capitan; what version of OS X were you upgrading from? Also, if you happen to have access to another Mac that hasn’t been upgraded to El Capitan, would it be possible to test the same PDF on both machines to see if you notice the same lack of sharpness?

2. In the same vein, if you have access to another machine, you may want to take a screenshot of what you are seeing in PDFs, verify that the screenshot shows the same lack of sharpness when viewed on your machine, then send it to a different machine and see if it is still noticeable.

3. Does this issue appear to affect all PDFs, or just certain ones? What is the source of the PDFs? If you create a PDF within El Capitan (say, by using the Print… > Save as PDF option), do you see the same sharpness issues?

Please let us know, and we’ll see if we can’t figure out what is going on.

Hi,

I upgraded from 10.9 to 10.11 a few days ago and am having exactly the same issue. You can see a screenshot of an example pdf attached. Both blurring and letter spacing distortion are clearly visible.

Answers to your questions:

1. In OSX 10.9 Preview.app the same document was sharp and without distortions

2. I compared the screenshot to the pdf on OSX 10.11 and it looks the same.

3. Printing a sample text document to pdf does not have these problems. Haven't tried with tex compilations yet. Once I get the tex distribution set up I will try that as well.

BR,

Johan

I have this problem too.

I am using late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD.

After upgrading from OS X 10.10 to OS X 10.11, I noticed that Preview display of ANY pdf file was blurry. If I open the same pdf file using Adobe Acrobat Pro 11, resolution is excellent.

I am certain that it is a Preview app problem. I had asked this question before and someone had suggested, in Preferences for PDF, to set the 100% scale as 1 point equals 1 screen pixel. I did that without improvement.

I hope this can be solved. I hate to have to use Adobe Acrobat Pro for this.
