Q: My new MACbook PRO has grayed out "burn" button when making an iDVD project

I bought a new MACbook Pro last spring.  My nephew got married in Cancun last week.  His family has asked that I make a movie.sideshow of photos to play at his reception back here in the states.  So I went into iDVD and made the project like always.  I go to burn it and the "burn button" is grayed out.  Of course they are wanting the project immediately.  Is there some way for me to easily get the project I made to burn?

Are you able to burn data disks from the Finder?  Can you read disks, both commercial and those you've burned?

First follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Then see if you can use Disk Utility to burn the disk image to disc at the slowest speed available.

Thank you for your help.  I did as you said and I was able to burn and then play the DVD perfectly.  I noticed that I had one "slideshow" on the main screen that I had forgotten to delete.  I deleted it and tried to save as disc image and I get "Errors in Project - there were errors during the project validation that have to be fixed before burning the project".  I opened the "DVD Map" and  don't see where there are any problem areas.

I don't know why just deleting that slideshow would produce such an error message.  You may have to create a new project and start over from scratch.
