So you are unable to unlock the lock in System Preferences correct? You can probably reset the password but we need to know which OS you are using as it is a different process depending on which software you are using.

Oct 1, 2015 10:49 AM in response to tstrittmatterby Pmintz25,Follow the article IIIaass posted. When your done doing this, you may just want to make a new Admin user for yourself so you don't have to keep logging into your son's account.
Once you're in:
Apple > System Preferences > Users and Groups > Click the lock and type the new password > to add a new user.
Make sure the new user is an Administrator account and has your name. If you don't want your son's account at all anymore, you can log into the new account you made for yourself, walk through the same steps as above but click his user and press the . Note that this will delete all of his data. You can always just leave his account on there if it doesn't affect you in any way.

This will start to ask for your password for a lot of items but just keep typing the new password until the prompts go away. A lot of apps need your password to work properly so if you don't use the above article to reset the keychain, they will continue to try to use your old password, which you don't know. This will allow the apps to learn your new password and prevent a headache in the future.
