I had some problems with Adobe Fireworks CS 6 after updating to El Capitan. I reinstalled Java 8. That helped. I used Photoshop CS6 instead for a few days, because it works well in El Capitan.
Install El Capitan to a separate, blank partition, then install CS6 and see if it works.
Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 and Illustrator CS6 won't start in El Capitan. These programs say they require the older Java 6. I have 8. I guess this will work: Java voor OS X 2015-001.
I was on a chat support for CC2015 and issues with 10.11 and asked about CS6 and 10.11 and adobe pointed me here.
https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cs6-system-requirements.html
unhelpful but official.
May be also take a look at Affinity Photo and Designer.
Clean install os OS
Legacy Java install
then CS 6
that's my understanding of the way it seems to work for those who got it to work.
I didn't need to make a clean install.
I updated to El Capitan yesterday.
Simply install Legacy Java then CS6 just works normally, for Illustrator and Photoshop anyway.
it works for some, not for others. in the event it works by simply installing the legacy JAVA consider yourself hitting the Adobe jackpot. Others have had a myriad of other issues trying to get PS or AI or ID to launch or not crash every 5 seconds in the event they get passed the splash screen.
What I am saying is I asked Adobe, they were on the phone with me and I have dozens of macs with a CS5/6 site license and they simply would not say yes or or even maybe, they would not answer the question. To me thats them saying they don't support it, they want me to buy Cloud for everyone so they can some more money out of me if I have to upgrade my Macs or buy new ones.
Yes, I appreciate that experiences differ, but I wanted to put on record that, for some, the simple solution works. Too often, and for totally understandable reasons, these threads are all doom and gloom. That's off-putting to simple folk like me and has me expecting disasters when each new OS X release is launched. Fortunately, in the past 6 years, it has always gone smoothly, but that always comes as a pleasant surprise rather than an expectation, largely because I check these forums before installing, to identify areas where others are having problems, and that is daunting.
I don't intend to use Adobe beyond CS6 as - for me at least - equally good solutions exist these days that don't require a subscription or Cloud presence. For the moment I need Illustrator to interface with a print shop, but I use Photoshop only for extremely specific work.
I only have our three home Macs to worry about though. So pleased to be of an age where site licences and their management are a memory.
I only use Photoshop CS6 and the only issue I have is that Bridge CS6 does not
recognize an attached camera for downloading. Fortunately, native Image Browser
or Canon's Camera Window DC work. Not expecting a fix for this none to soon as
Adobe wants to push their "ball and chain" subscription model.
What's odd about this particular issue, Adobe Lightroom does not have the problem.
Don't the Adobe CS folks talk to each other?????
Am starting to look at other alternatives since someday PS CS6 won't work anymore
and will not be enslaved by a subscription.
The term subscription really should be RENT ! When the subscription to my magazines end,
all the past issues don't suddenly disappear off my shelves.
I am using CS6 and it seems to have corrupt Photoshop because it is just a jumbled up mess when I open it and so far any CS6 program I try to open locks up my macbook pro, but so does the new photo app that came with El Capitan. Needless to say I won't be installing it on my desktop.
it's simply telling potential users they may or may not have a working creative suite if they decide to upgrade.
if you want to tell people go ahead and you'll be fine because the scope of your particular workflow appears to be unaffected you can.
but my findings are very different and I have a lot more than 3 machines to test on. I support workflows that are not identical from one group to another, but conclusively it won't work for us; stating such is not gloom and doom, I'm not making predictions, I'm telling you my findings on multiple computers after trying viable solutions that did not remedy our situations.
the OP post was asking if 10.11 supported CS5 and CS6 and as of now Adobe nor Apple has not said. That is not a conclusive yes from anyone.

That's fine, of course. All I'm saying is that there are OS X users who come here to learn how others are finding the latest upgrade, to inform themselves whether there is anything catastrophic that might be a reason not to update their own system. For any such user who comes here, there are few posts that might encourage them to upgrade. The answered questions are hugely helpful of course.
All Mac users don't have a bunch of systems with different workflows to consider. Not all users are of working age either - my 90 year old Dad converted to Apple 18 months ago. I use my experiences with my three systems to help me advise him on upgrades. He's 200 miles away, living in a farming village in the sticks. I just like to have as much confidence as possible that any upgrade will work, and that, where there are identified issues, there are identified solutions.
For folk like us, a positive post or two is reassuring. By the way, I'm not new to computers - I started in 1965 and have worked through to the present.
El F$%C* Capitan... worst decision i have made this year.... unbelievable company's like adobe and apple don't respect "old" clients..... no one will fix this big bug? unbelievable.... I'm a final customer and I don't have to spend more money to do things we already paid for it... no makes sense I paid more than $500 bucks for couple software and now doesn't work smooth.... "Old" like 3 years....crazy world!
"equally good solutions exist these days that don't require a subscription or Cloud presence."
Can you say more about this? As a former graphic designer who now does physical therapy for a living, but still has some small freelance gigs, I certainly can't justify paying through the nose for Adobe subscriptions when CS6 does finally go kaput. I'd love to know what the good, affordable alternatives are out there for PS and ID (essentially, basic print design)! Thanks!
