"equally good solutions exist these days that don't require a subscription or Cloud presence."

Can you say more about this? As a former graphic designer who now does physical therapy for a living, but still has some small freelance gigs, I certainly can't justify paying through the nose for Adobe subscriptions when CS6 does finally go kaput. I'd love to know what the good, affordable alternatives are out there for PS and ID (essentially, basic print design)! Thanks!

There are dozens of possible choices for replaced cloud and dozens more articles on the web, all of which are a web search away, but two Photoshop replacements off the top of my head are GIMP which is free and embraced by the 3D design community and Affinity which is a pay once cost but considerably less expensive than Photoshop.

None of these are Photoshop so while some of the concepts are identical it pays to watch a few Youtube videos and pay careful attention to what the instructors are doing.

This issue has been going back and forth for months but finding a definite solution is near impossible. One person has fixed their Photoshop, another Photoshop and Illustrator. But what about InDesign, After Effects, Dreamweaver etc. I have been looking for a solution since the launch of El Capitan so that I can upgrade. But as I use Adobe CS6 every day to earn a living, I do not want to take the risk of not being able to work. The fact that Adobe has changed to a subscription-based system, and many people do not want to or can not afford to change to this payment system, means we are effectively not going to be upgrading our Apple products. My software is legal, bought and paid for and Adobe has washed its hands. Mention CS6 and you face a brick wall. Unless someone can give us a workaround I will not be buying a new Macbook Pro when they upgrade. I need to earn a living more than I need a new shiny Mac. And my current Mac has a lot of life left in it.

I just upgraded our 2008 Mac Pro from Snow Leopard to El Capitan. Installed 10.11.4 on an erased drive and set everything up from scratch, which included installing Photoshop CS6 from the original CD and applying all updates. It works perfectly fine.

If I buy a new Macbook Pro with El Capitain, is it possible to install Yosemite onto it, instead of el cap? So I can run cs6 on it.

    Depends.

If the computer was first manufactured at a time when Yosemite was released you can install Yosemite on it provided you already own Yosemite, it needs to be in your App Store history or you need an installer archived somewhere. Last year I had several iMacs shipped to me and I needed to Downgrade them and at this time when I called Apple I was told by a sr. engineer who I finally contacted I could not only do this I would still be under warranty for the duration of my Apple Care lifespan. You may wish to contact Apple before you do any of this and I highly suggest a backup in any case.

Yosemite was a free upgrade, I think but I suspect that it will no longer be available unless I have previously installed it.

I used to sing Adobe's praises, now I just wish there was a viable alternative and Apple are not very helpful in all of this either.

    Thanks for the help.

Do you know if there has be a resolution to the problem of Bridge not recognizing devices after OS X el capitan upgrade?

There's a problem somewhere on your system. I just tested with Bridge CS6 (why that hasn't been updated by my CC account to the latest version, I don't know). Anyway, I had Bridge on the volumes list and plugged in a flash drive. It was recognized immediately.

Now to delete Bridge CS6 and install Bridge CC to see what happens.

Edit: Same. Bridge CC had no trouble recognizing any drive I plugged in or turned on.

Thanks but it's not a problem with my system. It's a comma problem with bridge no longer recognizing devices, such as camera's and iPhones, once the operating system has been updated to OS X el capitan. i was just hoping that some had found a direct resolution to the problem verses using a work around solution.

Can you try downloading directly from a camera into bridge?

Okay, that's more specific. You hadn't said which types of devices before. I presumed typical drives.

I launched Bridge CC and then plugged in my iPad. The Mac saw it right away and launched Image Capture. I launched iTunes and it also saw the iPad immediately. Bridge? Didn't have a clue. So I shut Bridge down and left the iPad plugged into the Mac. I hoped Bridge would then see it if the iPad was already reporting its presence to the system. Nope. Refreshing the view list in Bridge also does nothing.
