When I started my MacPro 2009(Mountain Lion), I heard the chime sounds and the monitor showed the boot-up white screen, but then the computer went blank right afterwards. I did buy new memory cards, but that didn't help either. I appreciate if I could get any tips or advice from you all on how to fix this problem. Hope to hear from you all. Try holding Option as soon as you hear the chime. Select Macintosh HD (or whatever your hard drive's name is) and see if it boots.
When you say "memory card" are you talking about new RAM? Did this happen before you installed more memory or after? Either way, I would reset the NVRAM any time RAM is replaced.
Thank you for the quick reply. Will try. The problem happened before. I thought it was the memory card-RAM problem, so I just tried 2 new ones. What are the keys to reset NVRAM on a Windows keyboard, please?
and how to replace the battery on the logic board? the back side up (side with the info on) or the other way around? Thank you.
Resetting NVRAM
from the Mac Pro printed Users' Guide:
" Insert the battery in the holder with the positive ➕ side facing up."
(the drawing adjacent shows the ➕ terminal facing you after installation.)
Sorry, Pmintz25. I did exactly as you asked me to do. After the second chime, the screen went blank (black) again. Could it be because of the video card since there was no screen and there was a light roaring sound right at the video card area, after the screen had blacked out?
