Not condescending at all and actually helpful.
If you know Apple, then you know that "backwards compatibility" is not in their DNA. You use an app that is discontinued and not updated for almost 5 years. In Apple terms, that is steam technology territory.
I know that all the great features and improvements in GarageBand 10 aren't helpful if you rely on the podcast feature, which was eliminated. So your only option (in lack of any other app you can use) is to hold on to it as long as possible.
I have a similar problem with the iWeb app and the old Pages app, which I use for my business. Both are discontinued and with every OSX upgrade I'm worried to reach the end of the line. That's how it is. However, if you are in that situation, then you should try the OSX upgrade first on a separate drive or partition to check if it breaks anything.
BTW, did you read any articles about El Capitan and audio apps lately? The internet is full of it and the consensus is, wait until all the software and hardware is supported - if at all (yes there are already some "casualties"). So I don't know why you upgrade your system already in the first week of the new OSX release, especially when using a mission critical app, that is an audio app, and that is discontinued for many years.
Hope that helps (this time)
