Q: El Capitan USB audio problems.

I just installed EL Capitan on my Late 2012 Mac mini. I have connected NuForce Udac2 DAC to usb port and it constantly disconnects from computer. I can't play any audio thru DAC. Tried changing midi settings, reseting Pram nothing changes. On windows PC dac is working without any problem. Everything worked OK in Yosemite.

There is obviously some problem with USB audio in EL Capitan.

DO NOT UPGRADE to EL Capitan if you have some USB audio cards important for work.

This problem came up in beta releases and still Apple did not fix it. This is a HUGE let down for me, especially considering how many people use Dacs or usb speakers these days.

I guess there is no difference between Apple and Microsoft these days. Everything that is released is not a finished product.

Guess I'll have to wait for 10.11.X for a fix...

Again, awful job Apple.

I just listened to a recent Accidental Tech Podcast. Marco Arment says he's not updating to El Capitan because the ongoing USB audio issues. He's an audiophile, so this isn't surprising.

Wish I had heard about this bug before I updated.

I was using my R16 mostly as a sound card. I upgraded to El Capitan on the day it was released and ever since then my R16 hasn't played nicely. Zoom support (clederer@zoom-na.com) informed me that they are working on the issue and that we should look to their website and social media for updates. I hope they are working hard on the issue and might have a new driver release or something soon.

I have Bose Companion 5 speakers as well and I can't get them to work at all anymore.  When I go into sound settings, then output, then select Bose USB, the message says "The selected device has no output controls."  Are you getting the same thing?  Have you found a solution yet?  Thanks.

You can add me to the list of very frustrated users!

And again, if only I had known would never have upgraded the OS...

    I have 2 USB DAC's - a FIIO and a SoundBlaster.

They show up in the list, and I can 'select' them for output, but they don't work and the laptop internal audio/speakers still play the audio.

    Very annoying.

With so many people affected surely Apple can get a fix out soon...???

I think the most annoying thing about it is that if you peruse various Apple related forums this was a problem even in the beta stages.   At least address it, acknowledge a problem and state when a fix will be available.  I spent good money on headphones, amps, and sound equipment software and to not have this addressed quickly is frustrating.Screen Shot 2015-10-21 at 6.45.20 AM.png

Just installed 10.11.1. update. Still no fix for this issue. Nuforce udac 2 still constantly disconnectiing.

Does anybody know direct mail of apple support so we can all send them an email about this issue. Maybe than in 10.11.5 update it will be fixed.

This is the worst upgrade ever since 10.4. Never had so many problems.

Bluetooth keyboard not working after sleep, USB AUDIO PROBLEMS so cant use anything beside crappy built in audio and no headphone amp, office 2016 and 2011 constantly crashing. I wonder, if i cant use it for audio or audio production, cant use it for writing in office, mail keeps locking up, for what can I use my Mac than.

To have a very nicely designed block of aluminium on my desk. Apple is really becoming everything but pro oriented company, and it is producing hardware and software for browsing the internet (till Safari stops working)...

Hello Microsoft and Surface book. At least I know that with them I will have a lots of problems that will be fixed thru gazzilion of updates, and wont expect computer to just work.

    Yeah, and one more thing..

I love how those paid (by Apple) journalist on Macworld that are calling El Capitan "the most stable release ever". Great Sponsored marketing Apple.

Just removing Macworld from my bookmarks.

Ah, OK, it's not as straight forward as that.

I just noticed a system sound come out of my USB DAC.

I've then gone to BBC Radio 3 listen live through their web page, and this is also coming out via the USB.

Then I tried my Tidal app, and this worked too...

But the Qobuz streaming app isn't.

So I guess it's a Qobuz issue rather than a broader OS issue?
