Q: El Capitan USB audio problems.

I just installed EL Capitan on my Late 2012 Mac mini. I have connected NuForce Udac2 DAC to usb port and it constantly disconnects from computer. I can't play any audio thru DAC. Tried changing midi settings, reseting Pram nothing changes. On windows PC dac is working without any problem. Everything worked OK in Yosemite.

There is obviously some problem with USB audio in EL Capitan.

DO NOT UPGRADE to EL Capitan if you have some USB audio cards important for work.

This problem came up in beta releases and still Apple did not fix it. This is a HUGE let down for me, especially considering how many people use Dacs or usb speakers these days.

I guess there is no difference between Apple and Microsoft these days. Everything that is released is not a finished product.

Guess I'll have to wait for 10.11.X for a fix...

Again, awful job Apple.

Has the developer anything to say about it? Obviously they would like to keep selling a product. If 10.11 is the root cause of the device not being able to function they might state something on their site. I have a Line6 device and they commented 10.11 caused some major issues for them and they stated on one of their blogs they had been working with Apple on a fix, as of 10.11.1 they later stated it was better but far from acceptable at this time. You may wish to contact your developer to get some insight into their knowledge of the issues and you may wish to report the issue to Apple. If Apple did break the USB drivers internally no one here can offer you a fix that would be an acceptable solution to something that needs to be addressed in a possible OS upgrade.

Yamaha just released the latest driver for my DAC today, and it fixed the audio issue with the OSX El Capitan.

Also I found the sound quality playback from iTune on El Capitan is slightly improved over the previous version. Does anyone aware of that?

I have an Audiolab M-DAC through which I play iTunes.  Running the latest (not beta) El Capitan, I have no audio issues.

So I suppose same solution as well... updated drivers, are there any? Look at the manufacturer website.

I have a Nuforce uDac2 and I use Audirvana Plus as my main player...I kind of found a workaround, it's a bit annoying but it seems to work consistently:

When you first plug in the udac, it'll show up in the system as Nuforce uDac2, but even if I set that as the output in audirvana's prefs, it'll start up, and then immediately say 'stopping audio device'  at which time if you go into sound preferences you'll notice for some reason the Nuforce has changed to IOUSBHostInterface.  Now if you go into audirvana's prefs and set it to the IOUSBblahblah and then restart audirvana, generally it always works for me now.

Annoying to have to go through that but at least it works  :-\

Does it also have problems playing from other applications?

Did you update Audirvana Plus to the current version? It says in the FAQ that 2.2.1 is compatible with El Capitan, I am assuming that older versions aren't.

I haven't tried it in any other programs yet, I was just elated to finally get it working again...and good to know, I haven't updated yet...I'll definitely give that a try!

I have NuForce uDac 2 and it doesn't work when I connect it to the USB ports of my macbook pro 15". It doesn't work if I connect that to my Apple thunderbolt display either.

However I managed to get it working when I connected it to my Apple keyboard. So when it is connected to the keyboard it works flawlessly. I hope this helps.

Weird. Wouldn't help me because my keyboard is Bluetooth.

Surely Apple knows by now there is some serious madness going on when it comes to USB audio in El Capitan.

Apple knew about it back in May.  Beta testers were complaining about it all along but Apple didn't care because it involves non-apple products.  I've been a die-hard apple guy since 1991. Apple products have taken a nose dive post Steve Jobs, my next machine will not have an apple logo on it.

Whatever. There was a problem with the release of Mountain Lion with USB Audio and eventually it was fixed.

I have the same thing happening.  NuForce wouldn't play through until (at your suggestion) i plugged it into the Apple Keyboard.  I tried a powered hub, fancy cords - nothing.  I ended up buying a new dac (Schiit Modi 2 Uber - at $150 a great dac.  much better sound than the NuForce. and not usb powered).

I use my zoom R16 with garageband (MacBook pro early 2011) and it worked
great. But since the last update of the OS X (El Captian 10.11.1) in octobre,
the USB port doesn't work anymore. Will there be a new driver or something to
    fix this issue

Interesting, but my NuForce DAC has never required, nor does it have a driver.

It's just native USB audio out that is the issue.
