Oct 16, 2015 10:36 PM in response to pwa65by ZPHIG,You have the answer. the file in your list... "System/Library/Extensions/EltimaAsync.kext/Contents" is one that existed in my list as well. After deleting it, everything worked fine. The file was created originally from a sync program I had acquired years ago for a PDA devise i was using. For me it serves no purpose any longer and it's deletion allows El Capitan to boot flawlessly.
Good luck and thank all for their efforts. Without the postings I never would have discovered the flaw.

Oct 19, 2015 7:42 PM in response to GSfromNLby Gweeto,Thanks GSfromNL. As others said your suggestion of removing unsigned kext files worked for me. There was one difference for me however that I thought I would share. It did not appear to work for me at first. I moved all the "Not Signed" kext files to the unsupported directory as suggested, rebooted from terminal, and then tried to reboot from menu and it still froze. So I moved the kext files back and did a reboot from terminal. When I did that reboot I got a pop-up message for each of the kext files I moved back (5 for me) saying they were not installed properly and would have to be reinstalled. After that it rebooted. And now I can reboot from my Apple->Restart menu again. The one thing I noticed still is that it seems to take longer on the black screen before you hear the distinctive reboot sound. But it is rebooting. 5 times in a row before posting this. I did another profile and the 5 unsigned kext files are showing up again now but it is still rebooting. I google the kext files that are not signed and based on my finding I went ahead and just deleted all 5 of them.
Thanks again!

Oct 22, 2015 9:37 AM in response to Tsofaby Gregg Curtis,I don't know why but this has fixed my problem.
It restarted me at the intro section of El Capitan... I had to re-enter my Icloud username/password etc... and resign the agreements.
But seems to be working.

Hi everyone!
Think I've got the final solution, found a nifty trick at OWC's website.
The previous poster is almost right, but it is a tailored solution that will not work for everyone, because everyone has different Kext's by different developers and vendors.
It seems to be all about Kexts and they are in TWO locations, /Library/Extensions AND /System/Library/Extensions.
Thank you GSfromNL!
Before trying this the 10.11.1 update on my MBP 2014 15" just hung and would never complete even after reboots. I followed the process you described above but only got rid of the items that were 2009 or older. I attempted the re-install and it went flawless. I used the same process on my iMac mid 2007 24" and it installed the 10.11.1 update with no problem.
Thanks again!

Oct 22, 2015 7:18 PM in response to Duaneby Carlos Velazquez,Has anyone updated to 10.11.1 and see if the problem re-appeared after a kext system was applied? I'm really hesitant to upgrade now...

Oct 22, 2015 8:06 PM in response to Carlos Velazquezby Duane,To be clear, I did not reinstall any of the items that I removed. And I have had no issues.

Oct 23, 2015 3:20 AM in response to flaviofrommvdby GSfromNL,Haha, Dos or Windows 95... Those where the days...
Anyways it was about time to get rid of old and desolate kexts that where apparently loaded in pre ElCap OSX.

Oct 23, 2015 7:25 PM in response to Lucaspeedby Supcumps,Thank you.
I found my problem to be that my Mac was loading a kext file (Loaded: Yes) that, according to the listing was not suitable for loading (Loadable: No) and this was causing the problem.
So, as well as moving the kext files that were unsigned, I moved the ones like this that had loaded but were "not Loadable".
The easiest way to do all this is to boot from a USB drive (google how to do this), then run the command:
system_profiler SPExtensionsDataType > ~/Desktop/kextList.txt to create a tect file that you can look at on the desktop.
Now look in the resulting text file for anything suspicious, unsigned or loaded when it states clearly it is unloadable.
Then use terminal on the resulting working computer to fix the files by using
sudo mkdir Unwanted to create a directory to move the files into
Then using mv command to move the unwanted kext directories.
Good luck.

Oct 24, 2015 12:43 AM in response to Supcumpsby GSfromNL,I do not think this will work (please correct me if I'm wrong!):
Booting from thumb drive will show the system as is, (startup USB) so the system_profiler command will give unreliable results...

Oct 24, 2015 1:20 AM in response to GSfromNLby Supcumps,My apologies - I mean reinstall from thumb drive.",
Then get rid if offending .kext files before upgrading and rebooting.
Aldi a good idea to check disk integrity
Hope that helps

I had to restore from Time Machine backup, scan and remove the .kext files, and then the 10.11.1 update was successful.
