Using OS X El Capitan,
Can't find the "Expert Mode" checkbox under "System Preferences" / "Displays" / "Color" / "Calibrate..."
Where did that go?

Hold the "Option" key when you click "Calibrate" in the Display preferences pane and the expert options will appear.

This didn't work for me. Holding the Option key down shows a "Detect Displays" button.
What the **** is going on??
It does work, just hold the option/alt key down, and click Calibrate, the Calibrate button doesn't change, but it will bring you through to the
familiar 'expert' options.
go on give it a go.
ignore the detect displays.
