I've just upgraded to El Capitan and found Keynote is no longer recognizing any keyboard input. The trackpad and the function keys still work and I can use Keynote as normal with the mouse, but no entry on the keyboard is recognized.
I've tried with both old and new keynote files and my keyboard works in other programs. I'm running El Capitan and Keynote 6.5.3 on my late 2013 Macbook Pro.

I have exactly the same problem . I have worked round it by writing the material in pages and then laboriously copy and pasting it into the text box. I also lost the whole presentation I was working on when I tried to reopen it immediately following the upgrade.
I hope the Apple team are working to resolve this.
Delete Keynote from the applications folder, empty the trash then re-install Keynote from the Mac App Store.
As of today, without doing anything I have normal access to keyboard in Keynote. How strange is that?
