Q: No mobile service after iOS 9.0.2 update

Hi all,

Even with the iOS 9 and 9.0.1 updates, my iPhone 6 (128 GB) was running smoothly. I was after updating to iOS 9.0.2 that a couple of weird things happened:

1. My cellular network has been replaced with "Searching..." and it does not appear in the "Network" field when I go to Settings > General > About. "Carrier Settings" does not even appear in "Settings" either. As a result, I can't use mobile services at all. Troubleshooting that I have done include:

- Removing the SIM card tray and checking for obstructions/physical damage. I even used another validly working SIM card and it still wasn't recognized.

- Following all the steps outlined here: If you can't connect to a cellular network or cellular data - Apple Support. Note that there are no issues with my mobile carrier's network, or my account.

2. Very minor, but when my phone appeared on iTunes, it was only identified as "iPhone" and not by the custom nickname I assigned it (let's say, "My iPhone"). - Very easily fixed on iTunes, but from past experience, I have never had to re-assign my custom iPhone name when I upgrade firmware -- so maybe that relates to another problem with the 9.0.2 update?

Short of doing a factory restore, or waiting for the next update, is there a way to resolve the mobile service problem?

Thanks!

Jay

Go get new phone at Apple store.  I dealt with it for two weeks. Reloaded phone numerous times in all configurations.  Nothing will work. New phone in ten minutes if less than a year old.

IT seems to be holding strong at nothing less than 3 "dots" on the signal strength. Hasn't stopped service once and when I turn off wi-if still shows lte.

We will see, however, if it holds. Will keep all informed. This is BS tho that Apple hasn't had a beta on this one and saw that this would happen before the release. I hope they figure it out and have a fix on the next update. I would hate to have to get a new phone. It's less than a year old with minor damage due to being run over by a car. Verizon says a $200 deductible even tho I have insurance on it. Bunch of BS.

Good luck.   I thought I had it a few times.  Have you reloaded and not put anything on it from backup. I left it like a brand new phone for two days. No iCloud no iTunes loggin no apps.  Just phone no wifi.  I didn't even use an app.  Just clean. I was hoping it was some app conflict. Or settings.  Failed again after two days was so bummed.  Had new phone for two days now a not a glitch with all my original settings from iCloud.  Again good luck.  Lord, bring us 9.0.3

    Hi.

So I've had the same problem of the continuous searching for signal on my iPhone 6. I've taken out the sim, restarted and then it shows no service instead. It has been doing this for a few days now and I have no clue on how to fix this. I done everything suggested so far, apart from restoring my phone from a backup (my iTunes is currently not recognizing my phone so I can't actually back it up.)

I also live quite far from an Apple store so its awkward getting to it to get my phone seen.

    Any more suggestions from anyone??

    Thanks in advance

I Was traveling the other day and heard two guys talking about the same issue as well as touchscreen issues. I find it hard to believe that it's the physical phone. Too coincidental that AFTER the 9.0.2 Update came out all of us are having almost mirror symptoms and identical problems. I'm waiting until 9.1 comes out later this month (just announced yesterday that THIS update actually has a beta period) before I restore to factory setting and backup from iCloud. I'm HOPING the apple people are on here, read these posts, and then use this info to FIX FIX FIX this cellular connectivity issue.

My phone is also slightly damaged so if THAT doesn't work, then I'll just pay the $200 deductible and get a new one.

I'm also having the same problem, I updated from iOS 8.4.1 to 9.0.2

Mine shows my carrier and 3G, I can use 3G data but I cannot receive calls or texts or make any calls and texts.

Come on Apple sort this crap out!!

Same problem on my Verizon iPhone 5. My iPhone is now an iPod Touch

9.0.1 was fine. Took 9.0.2 and now have "No Service", along with the battery draining at what looks like around 1% per minute. Here are the things I've tried so far that haven't worked at all:

. Kill all apps, reboot multiple times. Phone would crash and restart when killing the Settings app.

. Went to the Verizon store and had the SIM card replaced on their suggestion. While in the Verizon store, had 5 bars briefly then went to 0. Battery drained 10% in front of the service rep, who then tried to helpfully show me Low Power Mode. It then drained another 5%. The service rep repeatedly told me my phone was old and broken, and tried to get me to upgrade both my phone and my plan. It's like a used car lot in those places.

. Made a new backup and restored it through iTunes. (Would have tried an older backup, but it was erased when I made the new backup...)

    . Reset all Network Settings

. Reset the entire phone, restore from the backup I just made.

Keeping it in Airplane Mode but then turning WiFi on at least seems to keep the battery from draining so quickly. On a side note, I have another iPhone 5 on AT&T with 9.1 Beta 5, and it's working really well, with better battery life than it's ever had. I'm going to try downgrading to 9.0.1, and if that doesn't work, I'll try 9.1 beta on my 'old, broken' phone.

I am going to try 9.1 this morning after 12 restarts yesterday and this morning we are back to 'searching' and besides restoring to factory, I've done it all multiple times to fix. It works for a while but then gets more frequent.

My problem was resolved by the carrier - nothing to do with Apple. I think you should contact Verizon and ask them to resend your switch. Rogers, our carrier here in Canada, had the same problem with Samsung s6 and then with the update on iOS 9.0.2 which inadvertently completely screwed up the entire cellular account. They had to reset everything, send a new switch and it was fine. SIM had nothing to do with it. Perhaps call and inquire about them resetting all settings on their backend and see if that helps.

Well, after trying to solve this for 3 weeks, I finally couldn't take it anymore. All fixes only worked for a couple hours to a few days. After doing a beta test of 9.1 this morning and having not fix anything, I finally went into the Apple Store. After recounting everything I had done to fix it in the past 3 weeks, they just handed me a new phone and told me I must have been given a "lemon" when they replaced my previous phone a month ago. I disagree, but at least I am able to use mine without it being a brick with Wifi.

I updated my iPhone 6 plus 128gb to iOS 9.0.2  and just after a restart it shows searching..... and i could not make any calls or send messages and no 3g or 4g.If i go to settings it is also not showing Carrier.Carrier has dissapered. I have hard reset the phone, reset network settings, reset all settings and even restore iPhone from iTunes nothing worked. Finally I went to apple service center and submitted my phone. After 2 days they called me up and said that the issue cannot be resolved and they gave me a new iPhone 6 plus with iOS 8.1.3 Now my iPhone is showing full mobile signal. Now should i wait for iOS 9.1 or download 9.0.1 or continue using iOS 8.1.3? Please advice

It's your call. My replacement iPhone 6 worked without a problem with 9.0.2. Good luck!

Mine was damaged to top it off. I don't think it really was but nonetheless I got a new one today. Restored it from past backup and works great. I think Apple knows about it and that's why they aren't putting up a big fuss about exchanging them.

MY new phone works fine but for everyone with this problem listen up.  After I got new phone I started having a problem with texting.  It may be unrelated but I wish I would have tried it for the carrier problem too.  Call your carrier mine was atT  ask then to send a new carrier signal. They will tell you to turn phone off then back on in one minute.  They sent a reset signal to my simm and it fixed the texting problem.  After the call it dawned on my it might have been the problem the whole time. Since they are both carrier type issues.  Good luck.
