Q: No mobile service after iOS 9.0.2 update

Hi all,

Even with the iOS 9 and 9.0.1 updates, my iPhone 6 (128 GB) was running smoothly. I was after updating to iOS 9.0.2 that a couple of weird things happened:

1. My cellular network has been replaced with "Searching..." and it does not appear in the "Network" field when I go to Settings > General > About. "Carrier Settings" does not even appear in "Settings" either. As a result, I can't use mobile services at all. Troubleshooting that I have done include:

- Removing the SIM card tray and checking for obstructions/physical damage. I even used another validly working SIM card and it still wasn't recognized.

- Following all the steps outlined here: If you can't connect to a cellular network or cellular data - Apple Support. Note that there are no issues with my mobile carrier's network, or my account.

2. Very minor, but when my phone appeared on iTunes, it was only identified as "iPhone" and not by the custom nickname I assigned it (let's say, "My iPhone"). - Very easily fixed on iTunes, but from past experience, I have never had to re-assign my custom iPhone name when I upgrade firmware -- so maybe that relates to another problem with the 9.0.2 update?

Short of doing a factory restore, or waiting for the next update, is there a way to resolve the mobile service problem?

Thanks!

Jay

Same story as many here on iPhone 6 after upgrade from 8.4 to 9.0.2. After three long sessions with Apple support involving all the fixes so far mentioned and diagnostics tests which showed hardware A-OK, they finally agreed to give me a new one, as still in warranty. Left it on 8.4, didn't dare to upgrade again! Works fine. Wondering whether to risk 9.1 when it becomes available here in France (only offering 9.0.2 at the mo.)

Seems like you really have to insist and they will give in eventually. Good luck !!

    Apple has released iOS 9.1

Should i update my iPhone 6 plus from iOS 8.1.3 to iOS 9.1 or wait?

I have read that it- Fixes an issue that caused activation issues on some carriers.

No cellular service while switching data from 2G to 3G or LTE and then I have to restart the phone to get back the carrier service, this never happened on my iphone 5 but happens on iphone 5S and iphone 6S is there something wrong with iOS 9.0.2 or new iphone 6s? I have also tried switching airplane mode but this also never works

Update to iOS 9.1 and see if your issue has been fixed.

I just updated my 5S to 9.1 and it solved the problem for me.  I had reset and restored a bunch of times before to no avail, but the update seems to have fixed everything.

Same issue happened to me, iPhone 6Plus show no cell service few days after 9.02 update.

Done reset few times and restore did nothing to the problem.

Finally managed to talk to senior Apple support on phone and told me its hardware issue.

My phone was 3 weeks out of warranty but he agree to issue me a new phone.

Went to Genius Bar this morning and pickup a new phone (IOS 8.4). plug in my old sim and works great.

By the way I'm running IOS 9.1 now, no problem so far.

What does resend the switch mean?  Can I just call verizon and ask them to do that for me?  There are 5 lines on my account will it affect the other lines?

Thanks for everyone's responses!      Resetting the mobile network (not right away, but after a few days after the problem first showed) did resolve the problem. But even then the solution was at…

Just to close the loop for my report, I went through all kinds of troubleshooting with Verizon Tier 2 support, and on my own, upgraded/downgraded iOS versions, etc, and I'm now convinced that this is my phone's problem.
