Q: Cannot search Notes "normally" in El Capitan as I could with Yosemite

The search function in Notes is not working for me in El Capitan. I may have made the mistake of selecting upgrade of Notes when iOS9 came out, instead of waiting to set up El Capitan, but on my phone and iPad, I can still search as before and find everything in my iCloud notes.

When I search my iMac (27", late 2012, 3.2GHz Intel Core i5 with 10.11) or MacBook Pro (13", early 2011, 2.3GHz Intel Core i5 with 10.11), I do not get all the results the I should get, meaning if I search for text that I used to help file notes, I only get a very few hits compared to all the notes that I have stored with that tag.

I have used Macs since I bought a IIsi and have a lot of experience, but not much technical knowledge, so I may well have done something dim.

Any help or advice gratefully received.

Thanks

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11)

I had the same problem after I imported over 1000 notes from Evernote. None of the imported notes could be searched on my Mac but they could be on iCloud on the web. Since there were so many notes, I didn't want to delete and re-add them all as suggested in this thread. Instead, I quit Notes and unchecked Notes under the iCloud account in Preferences. Then I launched Notes and verified that no iCloud notes were now synced. Next, I quit Notes again, rechecked Notes in the iCloud account in Preferences, re-launched Notes, and waited for the sync to finish so that I could see all my iCloud notes. Voila! Search now finds all the relevant notes and it was much faster than delete/re-add would have been. The fact that this and deleting and re-adding solves the problem indicates that the criteria to trigger a re-index is not working properly, at least on import.
