Q: iPad backup is failling

Hi everybody,

I've a big issue trying to backup my iPad (mini first generation) since May 2015.

Since May, I've upgrade my iPad from iOS 8.X to iOS 9.0.2, Mac OS X from Yosemite 10.10.X to El Capitan 10.11. iTunes was also upgraded.

I've tried to restore my iPad with my last backup (May 2015).

I've tried to delete some iTunes cache files.

I've tried to delete all my iPad apps.

I've tried another USB port on my iMac.

Nothing is working.

I've no issue syncing my iPad with iTunes. It's only the backup that is not working.

The error message is that my iPad was disconnected ...

I've seen this in /var/log/system.log

Mac:log vincent$ grep AppleMobileBackup system.log

    1. If you have no backups of the device at all, there is a risk of losing data, and you should not try to solve the problem yourself. Contact Apple Support or make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store. The latter is a free service.

    2. Back up your iOS device to iCloud, if possible.

    3. Take the applicable steps in this support article that you haven't already tried.

    4. According to a report, Apple Support has given the following instructions to at least one user with a similar problem. I have not tested this procedure and I don't know whether it will work for you.

    a. Disable iCloud backup, if it's enabled:

Settings iCloud Backup iCloud Backup: off

    b. Reset all settings on the device:

Settings General Reset Reset All Settings

    c. Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

    d. When the device restarts, re-enable iCloud backup, if you disabled it.

Try again to back up with iTunes. If you still can't, go to Step 1.

    Hi !

I try some things on your procedure and now it's ok.

I can backup my iPad again.

I thing the "reset all settings" thing correct all.

    Thanks you !

The latest update for iOs 9.3.1 also repaired it, although I guess every other Update would repair this as well…
