Mini-display adapter

I don't know why either my mini-display adapter to VGA or cable to DVI-D works with my monitor? it stays black. Two things work, 1) hdmi , 2) Crystal Link display adapter. Monitor is a hyvision MV220A. Could be my older monitor, does anyone know why?

Thanks 4 replying. Yes, I bought a cable with mini-display port one end and DVI-D the other's. I am surprised that such a seemingly simple task has given so much grief. In fact, I am more worry that my thunderbolt ports are not working more so than the cable and adaptor...the sys info doesn't confirm anything.

Send or take the no name ones back and get a refund.

In addtition to the StarTec adapter, I have two Kanex Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter that are currently in service.

You can get then from several retail and on-line vendors for around $16 US.
