How to "smooth out" my transform tool on simple, straight line moves.

Anyone know how to "ramp" the speed on a simple transform move? That is to say, if I simply move an object across the frame, from one key frame to the last key frame. it comes to a sudden stop. I'd like the motion to be variable and for the motion to "slow" before the object comes to a complete stop. Yes, I've got "smooth" turned on versus "linear." And the bezier handles don't seem to help.
