Q: Cant upgrade to El Capitan following download

I downloaded El Capitan through the App Store but then received a message to say it could not verify the download.  As it is the operating system I cancelled the upgrade and tried again except I now appear to be stuck in a loop between App Store thinking thinking the upgrade has already been downloaded and not being able to commence the upgrade itself.  I'm assuming I'll need to delete the originally downloaded upgrade from the System Library somewhere and start again but not sure where to find it (or what the file is actually called) so I may clear the original download out and start again.  Any ideas?

OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), Airport Extreme and Airport Express
