How to find which hardware cause the problem from the panic report?
The first things to look at are any hardware to you have attached to your mac, and look at the hardware manufacturer's site for updated drivers.
Also, it is a good idea to run Etrecheck - it produces a report that can often bring to light a piece of problematic hardware or software.

Nov 19, 2015 7:11 AM in response to Luis Sequeira1by Andrew Marshall,Sadly yes true otherwise I'd not finally in despair posted here where many seem to be experiencing similar problems, while in the interim posting back many of the crashes to AAPL. I have no hardware attachments to my 2010 13" macbook pro, Yosemite previously was more or less ok but this El Capitan has been something else, crashing both on Safari and Mail, mail being most times I want to click on reply or forward a message, Mail has gone. Macrumors bolg developer comments quite interesting on El Capitan update seeds and the necessity for same.
Perhaps you could comment also on my mention of Snow Leopard and whether there is any chance AAPL will do a security upgrade at least to allow the older Intel, I-5 is it, Imacs on Safari and Mail to work on Gmail. Perfectly workable computer otherwise being consigned now to games or old file storage, or the need if possible to download a competitors product to maintain some internet functionality.

Nov 19, 2015 11:29 AM in response to dhenri99by ACLBF,Here's some basic (and generic) troubleshooting for, like, 99% of all problems. This is what you should try before moving on to specific troubleshooting.
And depending on the results you get you won't need to move on to formatting.
-- Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support
-- How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
-- Use FSCK:
1. Restart your Mac holding the Command and S keys until you see a terminal screen (it looks like a DOS thingy, or a black screen with white letters).
2. When you are able to type, input the following command:
/sbin/fsck -fy
3. Wait for the results:
- "The volume [name] appears to be OK": just type the command reboot so the Mac will restart normally.
- "File system was modified": repeat step 2 until you get the OK.
- "The verification couldn't be completed", "Couldn't verify disk" or something of the sort: very likely a hardware failure and you better take your Mac to an Apple Store or Service Provider.
-- Create a new admin user, test in Safe Boot:
1. Create a new admin user on your Mac and test if the problem persists on the new user.
2. Start up in safe mode and test if the issue persists both on your main user and on the new user.
From here on you might want to try specific procedures, unless you wish to go for formatting right away, then keep going further.

Nov 19, 2015 11:43 AM in response to dhenri99by lynn@mac.com,i had the same thing. there is a bug in EL Capitan that causes all of my emails to load at once, using all memory power and shutting down programs and computer.
here's directions from engineers on how to work around memory pressure until it is fixed at HDQ
If I use Mail, I have to do this every few days. otherwise i use iCloud to access mail.
ALSO I monitor the Memory Pressure in the Activity Monitor
when the memory pressure starts to rise, you have to shut down Mail ASAP

Nov 23, 2015 11:06 AM in response to ACLBFby Jarndyce,Thanks for this. I will give it a try.
I've got a one month old MBP Retina and El Capitan (it came with Yosemite) also crashes several times daily. Fortunately, the MacBook is so blindingly fast, it reboots in seconds, but I have never encountered such a flaky version of OSX.
I'll try a re-installation of the OS, but if anyone can throw any light on this panic report (which is typical - they all appear identical), I'd really appreciate it.
I've had no connected devices when it crashes.

Nov 23, 2015 11:17 AM in response to Jarndyceby Luis Sequeira1,I can't say it is causing the panic, but you seem to have sophos anti-virus installed.
Remove it completely, following the manufacturer instructions (it is NOT enough to drag the application to trash!).
Don't reinstall it or any other anti-virus software.
-
Nov 23, 2015 11:20 AM in response to Luis Sequeira1by Jarndyce,Yes, I noticed that.
But I HAVE completely uninstalled Sophos, using the utility provided and following the instructions.
Obviously, it doesn't completely remove the app.

Nov 23, 2015 11:22 AM in response to Luis Sequeira1by lynn@mac.com,Sophos anti viris is NOT the culprit.
The problem is Apple El Capitan bug.
Apple engineers have been in my computer for hours. multiple times, checking everything.
I have an on going open case with apple.
It is a El Capitan bug that causes all the emails to load at the same time. then the memory pressure goes through the roof, and causes everything else to stall or crash.
The engineers tell me they are still working on it.
As long as I use iCloud instead of mail, my computer works

Your problem seems to be very serious and strange, and clearly you have suffered and put a lot of effort on it.
I am not saying it is not what you say it is, but I would not assume that Jarndyce's problem is the same as yours.
I would be interested to see what Etrecheck reports on both of your machines, lynn@mac.com and Jarndyce.
In so many cases in the last few weeks, a simple look at the Etrecheck report has helped solve the issues by drawing attention to possible culprits.
