Q: Air Play is turned off. No Option to turn back on

On my MacBook air I cannot turn on airplay.

The Icon is there at the top of the menu bar but it states "turned off"

When I open display preferences the airplay display drop down box has only the option to turn off.No option to turn on.

Strange one.

My other IOS devices are OK and pick up my Apple Tv

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

I have the same problem after I updated to El Capitan

I have a Mac Book Pro from late 2011 and an Apple-TV from 2013

I visited a service centre (Talked to a service technician) in a Mac store and it worked ok there with their Apple-TV

His only suggestion was to restart my Apple-TV box (by unplug the electric feeding for a while)

I did that plus that I updated the software but it did not help

My wife have a Mac Air from 2011 and have not updated to El Capitan because the File Vault is still in progress after 5 days

On that computer it was no problem even before the restart and Update of the Apple-TV

I had that problem first after updating my Mac Book Pro (late 2011) to El Capitan but it worked OK with a Macair (2011) with OS 10.10

I updated the software on the Apple TV yesterday and it did not help (it also stopped working in the Macair mentioned above

I the restarted the Apple TV today and it now works with both ( It also works with a Ipad 2 with IOS 9
