My FaceTime camera is not working in El Capitan (Thunderbolt Display)

Amazing how simply restarting solves so many issues. Thanks for your suggestion. We just got a FaceTime call from son and 2-yr-old grandson (on the other coast) and he couldn't see us. So glad we're back on video. Happy Thanksgiving!

I tried this but when I tried to enter my password, there's a lock icon. How do I unlock it?

I was able to get camera to turn on in FaceTime by rebooting, but it sounds like I may need to do this every time I use FaceTime. Is that correct?

I just shut down computer and rebooted. Face Time and Photo Booth Camera working now.

I have a question though (anyone feel free to chime in 🙂)-- what should i do if it won't let me enter my password? for some reason the command works but then it won't let me type after that. is there a roundabout way to enable the input field?

The apple tech got me to resart in safe mode - it worked. (restart hold down shift)

Then a normal restart and it worked as normal.

Easy fix after doing all kinds of diagnostics with them

I was having this problem, then realized that for the display camera to work, you need to have BOTH the thunderbolt cable AND the USB cable plugged in.
