Can Pages read AppleWorks files?

I have a number of old AppleWorks files I can no longer access. Will Pages read them?

MacBook (13-inch Mid 2009), OS X El Capitan (10.11)

No. The first thing I would try would be LibreOffice. It is a free and very good office suite (better than Pages in my opinion). https://www.libreoffice.org

There is another previous discussion that may also help (it is a bit old and references Mavericks but still contains useful information): Is there an app to open appleworks in OSX Mavericks?

The free LibreOffice as recommended, unless you still have the iWork '09 applications installed in Applications/iWork '09 folder. These were the last to open AppleWorks Word Processing, Sheet, and Presentation documents. If your documents are complex with many integrated AppleWorks content, or database dependency, then these may give you some challenge, even in LibreOffice.
