Since upgrading to El Capitan I am repeatedly getting a messge that my iCloud session has ended, for security purposes. I am required to log in to iCloud a few times a day. This behavior never occurred with prior operating systems. Is this a new "feature" or is there some preference I can set to avoid this nuisance?
Have you tried signing out and then back into your account.

I too was experiencing this. What worked for me - completely log out of iCloud, turn off device, restart, and log back in. See if that works.
Thanks for the suggestion. I followed all the steps you suggested, but the same problem still exists.
