Some dock icons changed to white after update to El Capitan

After updating to El Capitan on my iMac (mid-2010), two of my icons that are on my dock (Messages & Notes) changed to white sheets of paper with a folded tip at the right uppermost corner and a little black arrow at the left bottom corner. Is there a way that these icons can be changed back to the more conventional pictures that existed previously. Please provide detailed steps or link to same. Thanks.

I used "get info" when clicking on the correct app in the applications folder. Then unlocked the folder. Under Original/Applications folder/Messages App, I "Select New Original (where there were actual pictures of the icons) and chose the correct icon picture. It didn't change immediately or After I restarted. I do not know where I am going wrong. Should the lock box be "locked" after this whole process or unlocked?

Thanks all for responding. GaryfromRio linda was the correct answer....thank you. Actually, that is the first thing that I thought of and looked at when I saw the problem. However, when I first looked in "Applications", the photos in Applications were the same as those blank sheets on the dock. Somehow, after all the different things that I tried and several restarts, etc....the correct images appeared in the Applications folder. Perhaps it was when I performed the "Select New Original" that they then appeared in Applications but didn't automatically change on the Dock. Anyway, it worked and I thank you all for your support.
