Can I disable or hide previous/next iOS video player buttons from web page?

Greetings,

When playing a video in HTML5 on an iPhone in Safari via the <video/> element, the video opens full-screen and I see previous, play/pause, and next buttons. Is there a way to hide or remove the previous and next buttons as there is no way to handle those events from a web page?

I have an iPhone6+ running iOS9.0.1 that I used for development.
