my ipod classic has stopped seeing loaded music

My classic 110g iPod has suddenly stopped seeing supported music. I've restored it twice, synced it. . . while attached ITunes "see" the loaded music, but when I eject my iPod, it says "no music" and when I try to reconnect it to iTunes, it sees my iPod, but cannot connect properly. It does give me the option, at that point, to restore. . . and it all starts over again.
